same hand, suits reversed

Recommended Posts

This is an automatic 1...2 for me. If partner makes a preference to 2 I'll raise to 3. The latter is absolutely obvious if partner's first response is 1, not as obvious after a 1 response, but I'd still raise 2 to 3.

In the danish beginner system (an Acol'ish variant) this is clearly worth 3

No it's not. It's a 2 rebid, 12-18 at least 5-4 in the minors. 3 would deny four clubs although you can choose to ignore them if they are tiny.

Thanks, wasnt aware of that. Move a small club to hearts. Is it a 3 over 1 or 1 now in Bridgevejen?

There is a major difference between this hand and the prior hand, beyond the reverse problem. That is, if people still do courtesy corrections when they are supposed to. Or, has that also passed?

Since we do not have 2½ available, I would say 3 over 1 and 2 over 1. After a 1 response the hand is considerably better than after 1.

What is your plan here?

I like Roland and Ken's posts here.

I also note that you always have 2 ways to bid 64's where the 4 is lower ranking than the 6:

a= foo, foo, bar

b= foo, bar, foo

As Roland noted, considerations as to suit quality matter as much as overall hand strength; but for the most part "a" is the route for weaker hands and "b" is the route for stronger hands.

(and I'm very glad Jilly did not tell us that she opened this 1 and then rebid it 3... :o )

I don't know about B/I-level, but above that courtesy preferences are still in extencive use - at least where I play.
