Opp preempt you once again, sigh

Recommended Posts

I'm only postulating, not saying what it should show. Suppose you have a hand that wants to play in 3NT if partner has a stopper. Something like: Qx x(x) xx AKQJxx(x)

Is it the case that we can never play in 3NT when it starts (2) - X - (3) - ?

Or does this hand make a try with a responsive double, then correct to clubs?

Will these opp never stop bidding!

(2h)=x=(3H)=x!

p=3s=p=5c?

x!=responsive, whatever that shows here?

5c?=What does 5clubs show?

The 1st X is T/O, so apriori =4144

The 2nd X is Responsive, so apriori =4144, =4414, =4441 with values but no clear direction.

3 sets strain.

5

Advancer has enough extras that they think pd needs to evaluate holdings in the context of a slam try.

My thought given the context of the previous bidding is that this is a splinter.

After all, with a good (12)46, pd did not need to use a Responsive X. pd knows what strain (12)46 prefers.

I'm on the same page as Josh. Partner hoped for something better, like 3NT or a penalty pass, and when that didn't happen bid his normal game.

I'd never be holding 4's doubling 3 here, so 5 as a splinter is way out for me.

Seems like partner is 2245 or so, doubled first in case the takeout doubler could pass it or maybe could bid 3NT, then bid his normal game.

Playing with myself, as it were, partner is offering the choice of 5C or 5D.

Double of 3H was responsive, showing at least two places to play. These could be both minors (2245, 3244....).

Over 3S, 4C would be non-forcing with both minors.

4D is a bit of a strange call; arguably it should be forcing with both minors but perhaps it is non-forcing 3154

4H agrees spades

So 5C sounds like both minors, game forcing values.
