At matchpoints I don't want to try to outbid them at these colors, and partner will not be in on the joke if I open this trash 2. Pass is clearly right.

Bridge is a partnership game. If your partner expects you to preempt with this kind of hand at these colors, well, then more often than not, you will get away with it. If he (or she) expects better preempts ((( ESPECIALLY IN SECOND SEAT WHERE YOU ARE EQUALLY LIKELY TO PREEMPT PARTNER ))) then bidding 2 here can be quite deadly.

1) Partner is weakish and bids too much

2) Partner is strongish and bids too much

3) Partner is very strong and bids way too much

Pass this round, think about bidding next round if it looks right.

I did have another question from this hand.

After

(P) - 2 - (3) - 4

(5) - P - (P) - ??

What do you do with

AQJ92

AJ3

9

A765

Just to remind you we are red they are white vun.

X, it is close, but I am not certain that 5S makes,

but 5H will fail most of the time.

I would say it is 50/50 between 5S and X.

With kind regards

Marlowe
