Playing team match sitting on S what to open here? (Playing generally natural system with 2 - multy and 2,2 showing 2-suiters).

And if playing 2 as precision is it worth opening 2?

Seems like your options are pass, 3C, and 4C. The textbook bid is certainly pass. Preempting can shut out your spade fit forever. But as hrothgar will tell you, bridge is a 4 handed game not a 2 handed game. I would usually open 4C but we're red/white so that's kind of scary, but opening 3C doesn't seem to do the hand justice. Maybe another reason to pass? As I don't think I can accurately describe the playing strength of this hand without placing myself at too much risk I think I would pass, but at the table I could see myself bidding 4C or 3C depending on various factors, it's really a close case. Passing is definitely not my normal style with this hand type. I would not open 2S, this hand is about clubs.

I would open it 2 if playing Precision, as one of the possibilities is a good 6+ card club suit and a bad 5 card major. Provided I hadn't already been warned today about opening a 7 count with an 11-15 opening bid.

Otherwise, I guess I'd pass. Ick.

I would open 3, fully intending to bid 3 at my next turn if I got the chance. Any appropriate preempt seems reasonable, or a pass if preempting on these is not your bag baby. I really don't think it matters much, since everything works sometimes. Just pick a style that partner can count on and stick with it.

yes I agree I would bid 3S if I opened 3C but not 4S.

Yeah I'm with you there, 3 then 4 is just too unilateral, 3 then 3 doesn't seem so bad to me since I could reasonably have opened 4 anyway.

South   West  North  East

pass   pass   1NT   2

4(??)  5   dbl  pass

pass   pass

(2 - showed + )

+800 to NS.

on the another table auction went faster :P

South  West  North   East

4    pass   6  all pass

Slam depends on 2 finesses and both passed +1390 to NS

surely 4 was not the best option, could you comment on it?

Slam depends on 2/3 fineses, wich normally is 50%, even a bit more cos you can protect agaisnt KJ stiff behind when K onside

4 is a big gamble, could had turned much worse (also better)

I would open it 4 or 5 at other colors, but I agree with this. Sometimes you have to pass at these colors and hope you can describe this later.
