I am quite certain 3NT would be unanimous or nearly so in any expert poll.

I think you'd get some votes for pass, but yeah 3N for me as well.

Agree. My first instinct was to pass, but I'd bid 3NT too.

I think there are two problems with hoping partner will reopen. One is that he may have Kx of spades which he will downgrade but we know it's working. The other is we have heart length, even if partner is short in spades he may be short in hearts also so not be able to reopen.

OK, from the other side of the table. You passed initially, now you hear pd overcall 3NT over 3S. Do yo move forward, If Yes, how?

I would have passed NV/NV. But then again I like opening most unbalanced 10 counts :P (of course partner can have 10 hcp balanced which might make game good, but that's life)

Incidentally, 3NT is not unmakeable, and not the worse contract one has ever played :-)

From our combined length in diamonds, it is likely that RHO is stiff in diamonds and not hearts (likely shape: 7=2=1=3). In this case, after the spade lead (ducked by opps), we'll count 8 tricks, 1 spade, 5 hearts and 2 clubs. I guess cashing the hearts and taking the club finesse for the 9th trick should be reasonable.

3NT bidders surmise a S-suit shut out after the opening lead -- no duck to keep communication, no side entry by S-preemptor. Or S-preempt missing S: KQ and 10!

Double wins way often. Especially if 3NT response under preempt is a bal hand -- not stop promise. And 3NT reopen does not promise S-stop under preempt.
