5♦ eXclusion is the classical bid, but since that's almost always a psyche, some recommend the 5♣ "inverted psyche". I'll go for 2♦, though.

Do your agreements really include both 3♥ as a fit jump and 4♣ as a splinter? I would agree willingly to either both as fit jumps, or both a splinters, but cannot imagine the split agreement.

 

But, I start 2♦ as that way I may flush a monkey or two from the bush (will I know it if GOP is the funny man).

One is a single jump, one is a double jump. If you don't like playing it that's fine, but it's very easy to imagine and not a 'split agreement' at all.

I wonder what 2♦ followed by 5♠ would mean. If it's asking specifically for a diamond control then that looks good. We might lose the first three tricks in 5♠, but I don't think I could ever bring myself to stop at the 4-level on this hand anyway.

 

If we don't have that agreement about 5M bids, I think I would splinter 4♣.

I slightly prefer 3♥ fitted to 4♣. It seems pard is more likely to show a diamond control when we give him some space to just rebid 3♠ (which looks inevitable) after our 4♣ cue, than a direct 4♣.

 

2♦ just leads to complications. We'll have to re-cue to set up a force, and 3♥ over 2♠ doesn't promise support for most.

 

2nd choice is a direct 5♠.

Not uncommon to play a single JS as fitted and a double JS (or single jump cue) as a splinter.

I agree I doubt very much 2D is going to help us get to slam.

I expect to give up on slam or even the 5 level.

 

If you love this hand I would just bid 5S now. Not an option I see. :)

This isn't what the original monkeys option was designed to flush out. After the Cromwell Regional, I posted several problems on here with one ridiculous choice at the end to test the number of monkeys at the keyboard voting on these polls. I don't really need to mention any names by which these primates operate, but I think we all know who some of the more vocal ones are :)

I think driving to the 5-level without partner's cooperation on a scientific auction is crazy, I would much rather bid 6♠.

I would bid 3♥ and cue 4♣ over 3♠.

5♦. This should say to partner " I have a good hand for slam in spades, Please bid 6 if you can stop them from taking first 2 tricks in ♦, which in essense is asking for first or second round control.

 

There is no unviversal agreements about this, but I find it very logical and that what I would take for 5♦ bid for , even if i play with pickup partner. It gives up explorations for grand, but bridge is not a game for perfection. Play for ♠ shoudl be very reasonable if partner has Kx or better in ♦

My plan is very simple, bid 2♦to show strong hand, next 5♠ to show lack of diamond control.

Since in this problem 2♥ is forcing, I'll bid that and see what happens. This is a hand where I want opps to bid. Suppose it goes:

3♣ 3♥ 5♦

 

now I can probably bid 6♥ because pard is likely to have a singleton diamond.

I don't understand 3♦ followed by 5♠ to ask for a ♦ control, nor do I understand an immediate 5♦ to ask for a diamond control. I always thought an immediate 5♠ on this auction asked for ♦ control, an immediate 5♦ was exclusion blackwood, and 3♦ followed by 5♠ asked for spade quality.

 

I think the correct way is to bid arend's plan.

I would bid 2♥ if that is forcing.

 

My second choice would be 4♣ splinter, but partner is almost surely going to sign off over this even with a diamond control since he will have bad trumps and probably not a whole lot of extras. Then I'll be guessing at the 5-level anyway.
