Follow-Up on Numbers Game

Recommended Posts

As an aside to the "numbers game" post, I thought it might be humorous to share examples of the most "impossible" auctions anyone has experienced. It would not be necessary that the auctions were good auctions, just real auctions. If the auctions worked and actually made sense, all the better.

My first offering was 1(somewhat standard)-P-1NT(2-5 HCP)-X-6-X-P-P-P, 6 being red-on-white. A finesse failed for -200 but allowed -450 to score against 5. If the finesse works, 5 would be set, but then 6 would make.

Another favorite. P-P-1(not a psychic)-P-1NT-2-2-P-3-P-P-4-P-P-P. 5 would have made (and would have been bid if the opponents had competed to 5). The seemingly impossible auction was actually quite amazing. The side bidding 4 was vulnerable. When second-seat passed, this was done playing a light initial action system. The late 2 call was a big bid, as almost all 8-counts were opened. The sole exception was precisely 2245/2254, where 9-10 HCP was possible after a pass. So, it seems that this person had 2254 pattern, 9-10 HCP's, and probably Aces. Her partner, with a decent enogh hand and five spades, specifically AKQJ8, knew that the suit could play well even with a 5-1 split, as the double finesse was about a 66% play.

Any others out there?

Your biddings in 1 line are very hard to read.

Nothing very exciting that I Remeber, just the last week

2-3-ps-4

5-ps-6-.....

Not very accurate I don't remember the exact bidding but was something like

1*-ps-1-ps (1 strong)

2*-ps-2*-ps

3*-4-X-ps

ps-ps

Thanks for explaining what you have, now I know I make 4

There was a board at my club duplicate a few months ago where every single player bid diamonds except south, who bid the final contract of 6 hearts!

W--N--E--S

1-2-5--P

P--6--P--6

The hands were something like:

[hv=d=w&v=n&n=sakjt97hakqjt2dc4&s=s3h9843d972cakj32]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv]

Last night I came up with some possible meanings of this (and similar) auction:

1 - p - 1 - p

1N - 2

I'd like to hear other's thoughts, but I think I came up with something rather logical.

6 or 7 small ones 7-9 HCP?

You need to know your partner, aybe it is just 4+4
