1 everybody agrees that reseting is a matter of courtesy for the newcomer

2 but it erases all hands previouly plaid and therefore hurts the 3 others players who are interested at looking at the previous hands, to learn, compare,....

3 sometimes people not yet seated in the dummy's place ask for reset even before the hand has been completely played; it creates .. noise

4 my suggestion : change the software : reseting clears the counter BUT DOES NOT ERASES THE HANDS LOG

5 You will avoid another unnecessary split between those who are interested in scoring and those who are interested in bridge bidding, playing or defending

Sorry Melvy, this has been brought up many times as a potential solution, but Fred has said that reprogramming BBO to allow this is very difficult and not high on the list of priorities.

 

Too bad, because it would solve many issues in the MBC.

Welcome to the Bridge Base Forum melvy. A very nice first post, and an excellent idea. As julie5607 suggested, this idea has been raised before and it is low on the priorities, because it a difficult problem.

 

Keep the good ideas coming, because many ideas posted here end up being implimented.

Why all people at the table must share the same score? If I am new at the table, my score could be 0, while the others have their previous score. Nothing else depend on the score.

 

My suggestion: everyone has its own score and handlog. You can reset it, if you want (from the same table menu -- it should be available for all players).

Because as previously explained by Fred, the score control is a table level option, and not a player level option. See the following link for a thread I started earlier on this subject and Fred's responses accordingly:

While it should be (to my mind) a relatively simple thing to accomplish the score being on a player level option, it appears that BBO was not originally designed to work that way. To make it a player level option, would require a major rewrite of the way things are currently handled. Which, in turn, explains why it is not as simple as I originally thought it should be.

 

Since the BBO software is currently undergoing a major redesign (according to some of Fred's other posts), there are not going to be any dramatic changes made to the current software.

 

I believe Fred when he says that he has read and heard the request for score resets to be a player level option (or for a players score to be zero every time you are seated at a new table). Whether or not it is incorporated into the rewrite is up to him.

 

I was also left with the impression, that even if this request is not in the "original" release version of the new software, that once the new version is implemented, we should begin to see an even more rapid response and implementation to suggestions than are made. And those responses have already been fairly quick in terms of users getting changes made to a software system. For the most part, the BBO team has always responded quickly to user requests, whenever it was feasibly possible to do so.

Fred, i am afraid i didn't make myself clear: rebuilding the software to each player level from table scoring is likely difficult. I agree

what I suggested is that pressing on the reset button continue clearing the score as today but do not erase the hands

I personnaly never ask for reset, feeling that i should respect people who were at the table before me.

Most of people who ask for reset do not realize how it's frustrating for the other people.

Yesterday, to make that felt clearly by a player who asked for reset, I did reset after each hand.......i left the table upset and frustrated; i do apologize to redshoes, that's his bbo username : I am old enough to give from time to time a lesson to somebody.

Fred, if I come again on the subject, is because i feel this issue is one of the few subjects of bitterness between players in a Club which, beside that, is a wonderful place of fun, entertainement, encounter and bridge game improvment.
