This has happened several times. Someone claims all the remaining tricks in the middle of a trick and the opponents accept. However, the incomplete trick is also included in the claim even if it was taken by the opponents. This way even the trump ace may not win a trick.

Can a little check be built in the sofware to avoid this or shall we pay more attention to claims? It would help as well if claims could only be made when a trick is complete.

You always have to check a claim from your opoonents, so just refuse a wrong claim, no problem at all. I think this responsibility should stay with the players, not with the software.

Yes it is responsibility of players to make accurate claims and to check claims issued by opponents.

 

And yet, there is the capacity within software design to make the process of claiming more or less user friendly and more or less inherently prone to error, imposing on the user a greater or lesser degree of care in order to avoid error.

 

If there is the capacity for improving the software design then I see no reason why that should not be pursued independently of the recognition of the responsibilities of the players, and this is an appropriate forum for that suggestion.

 

This is a regular subject brought up in this section of the forums, and I would be surprised if most users did not think that there was room for improvement, especially among those users already familiar with certain competing products. Fred has already mentioned elsewhere his current commitment to a fundamental rewrite, so it is not something I would expect to see changed in this generation. Perhaps this is one area that will receive attention in the rewrite, though.

There is a difference here from 'normal' wrong claims: here everybody knows that the claim refers only to the remaining tricks. Declarer claims in this sense and the opponents accept in this sense. Only the timing of the claim is wrong.

The simplest way to solve this problem is to either lead from hand or dummy and then make the claim (or claim prior to leading from either hand). Do not play from the other hand on this trick. By doing this, the software is prevented from subsequently "adjusting" the claim.
