p-(1H)-1S-(2H)

This is close but I would bid 2s, freebid, even at imps.

1) Partner has overcalled in the boss suit, spades nv, lets give her a break.

2) Qx of hearts looks like a downgrade

3) xxx of trumps looks like a downgrade

4) no stiff or void, flat shape looks like a downgrade.

5) K of D is neutral

6) Ace of clubs is a plus.

7) I think a free bid shows something, not random flat 5 HCP.

I think the point is "what if LHO bids 3? Since I don't feel like forcing to the 3 level, the question to me is whether to dbl or make the slight underbid of 2.

Dbl is right on spot as to where our values are, but buries support if LHO bids. 2 is a slight distortion, but we can always dbl later to show a low ODR if the tactical situation calls for it.

2 it is.

If your silly silly partner can't make 3 with this brilliant dummy, u have every right to tell him off!

Your silly pard made a 3rd seat 1 overcall. He doesn't promise the world. In fact, 4 good spades is enough to make the bid.

Playing any kind of reasonable overcalling style I cannot imagine bidding anything other than 2S with this hand unless I just loved going minus. I mean really, 3H, wow.

Partner had AJxxx x 10xxx Kxx, don't remember the spots.

edit: I looked up the full hand:

[hv=d=n&v=n&n=s843hq6dk1073caq94&w=skq109hj943dj4c752&e=s6hak10872daq5cj106&s=saj752h5d9862ck83]399|300|Scoring: IMP

p - 1H - 1S - 2H

2S - 3C - p - 3H

all pass[/hv]

So 3SX isn't even a big disaster as the opponents can make 4H. Passing out 3H was better.

This is obviously a bad hand for having to bid 3H - and it's not uncommon for RHO to tempt oppos with a good spade holding, of course.

But I'll still stick to my double by preference and 3H by necessity.

There are many situations like this that define the outcome of competition - you pay your money and take your place in the rankings.
