4 P 5 ?[/hv]

Still red at imps, though you may notice some similarities to a previous hand...

I hope that I'm not being too inconsistent, however, I like this hand much more than the last one.

Partner is likely to have Club shortage. We should be able to ruff clubs with some low Hearts. Even with the expected trump lead, things should work out differently.

I'm still worried that partner may hang me, but I am willing to risk bidding 5H on this one

This is beginning to remind me of an old BW story in which the hero has a dream in which he is playing against the devil, and he keeps getting the same hand... he gets it wrong every time, of course.......

I think this one is even worse than the previous one, and I'm afraid to answer because, if I don't like this one, imagine how I'll feel the next time you post this hand, with, no doubt, an even more fiendish dilemma.

However, I am not (always) a coward, so...

I pass. Yes, I could be getting robbed blind, but here I have a modest clue or two.

Partner is short, very short, in s. He rates to be void, but may own one.

I don't hold a huge number of hcp. Partner will not usually hold even a minimum opening hand because he'd be likely to act with his shortness

So RHO has some hcp.. anywhere from most of the missing points to at least a good part of them. Which means that he probably has defence, which in turn means that he is bidding to make rather than as an advance save... which gets us back to his having most of the hcp.

None of this is for sure. And even if it is, if partner is void in s, we rate to play adequately in 5 without a trump lead even if partner is relatively weak... but the overcall madness has to stop somewhere and, for me, this is it...Pass

I pass this as well. I think the key here is that we hold three clubs, so partner if partner is very short in clubs, then he doesn't have very much. It might not even be the case that partner is that short in clubs (he could have a doubleton for example), as RHO may be raising purely on power. Sure our hand has some great playing strength, but this could very easily be a phantom or going for a packet for no reason.

Absolutely 5 for me. I am not that worried about partner 'hanging me' since his raise to slam could easily make!

I answered this one since I still haven't got the slightest clue what to do on the other, but I'm quite confident here.

Confident about what?

The only thing I'm confident about on this hand is that it will be nearly impossible to agree on a simulation. :)

Confident in my answer silly.

I'd pass here. My general rule is to bid aggressively with shortage in the enemy suit. In this case partner (if anyone) has the shortage. His failure to bid suggests that his hand will not be as suitable as people are expecting. It's also quite possible that RHO is short in clubs (maybe clubs are 1-1 between partner and RHO) and the raise is mostly on power, in which case I'm going for a huge number if I bid. Relying on partner to have short clubs, and RHO to have some clubs, and partner to have some hearts to ruff my clubs, seems like a lot to ask for. Even if partner shows up with some magic dummy, he'll probably raise to a failing 6 (expecting that my bid with the longer clubs actually shows a good hand).

The auction is different than the other thread, I agree.

Before revealing the full horror of this hand, I should warn you that this was in the last league match of the season, after the winner of the league had already been determined, so there was a certain air of frivolity. I was East.

4 P 5 5

P 6 x all pass[/hv]

NS 1660

I am told I managed to remain completely impassive when the ace of diamonds was ruffed at trick 1. All I can add is that the double only cost 1 imp against 4S-4 undoubled in the other room

:D

Exciting stuff, Frances !

IMO P = 10, 5 = 7, X = 1

Pre-empts work

Partner does not necessarily have a void.

For instance RHO may have

KQxx AJxx AKQT 9
