ArcLight
I don't agree with Souths penalty double.North could only scrape up a raise in competition. Pass and see if you can set the opps. I agree with norths bid. Show the 3 card support in competition.North doesn't really have enough for a negative double either. If north doubles, and the bidding continues, should he/she support hearts at the 3 or 4 level later? That implies a much better hand. Bad luck, and South should not have made a penalty double, hence my vote of blaming South
whereagles
South was a bit optimistic, in my opinion.

Gerben42
It's not so easy at MP. Is it clear all pairs will compete to 4♣ or that 3♥ is not making? Let's assume from South's point of view his options are Pass and Dbl: When 4♣ makes, Pass wins 1 MP to Dbl against all tables playing Clubs, and none against all tables playing Hearts. When 4♣ is down 1 and 3♥ makes, Pass loses 1 MP to Dbl against all tables playing Clubs, and loses 2 MP against all tables playing Hearts. When both 4♣ and 3♥ are down 1, Pass loses 1 MP to Dbl against all tables playing Clubs, and loses 0 MP against all tabels playing Hearts. Let's assume the # of tables playing Hearts and those playing Clubs are equal. In that case for Pass to be correct 4♣ must make 75% of the time if 3♥ makes, and 50% of the time if 3♥ does not make. I don't think it's that clear.
SoTired
Both South and East were a bit optimistic.... East's optimism worked on this hand. Next hand might not work out as well. MP, I would probably dbl, too. Looking for that magic 200. Both sides had an undisclosed double fit. I blame East, 100%
gwnn
I like hunting for my 200's but this is too much.... my hand is 100% offense, 0% defense (unless Fluffy discloses that we have the ♣9 :)). South 101%
Fluffy
(unless Fluffy discloses that we have the ♣9 :)). That card is in north's hand I'm afraid, South had the 8 though
jtfanclub
Anybody else feel that 3♥ by South was too frisky? South showed his hand once, no reason to show it again. North can bid 3♥ if he wants to compete further.
jdonn
I am much less sympathetic to south than even the other people who think he was wrong, double was beyond contempt to me. Opponents at this vul aren't insane, you know they are going to have a singleton or void in one or both majors! For all I know they are missing 5♣. Like if west traded a heart to east in exchange for a club (which would actually fit their bids more closely as well).

jdonn
3♥ was completely fine. All south needs is Qxx of hearts and an ace to make, which would beat the -110 or +100 vs 3♣.
