In the real world, we'd (mostly) lead the Jack.. but there is a lot to be said for the K..... but I'm boring on opening lead... god dealt me a lead.. if he's let me down again, then I can't complain 'cos I don't believe in him anyway :P

I'm ashamed of my lead. I'm not going to post anything else in this thread.

I think a Spade is the only lead to be real ashamed of.

There are reasons for any other suit.

I would surely lead a diamond. I think I take the ten.

Thanks Codo, you made me feel better. (Although, a spade 10 lead aiming for Jxx in dummy and 98xx in declarer's hand is bad? I'm sure Ken would appreciate that story.)

I lead the diamond nine and partner produced the king, a good start (and Josh, the dummy, was yelling at me in private which made it even better).

Declarer (good player) won the ace and played a low spade. What's next?

Declarer seems to have the SK. If his "big cards" are in C or H you'd think he wouldnt expose himself to 4 fast spade losers like this.

So, if he has the SK, he has 4D, 1S, 1C for 6 tricks, and he's only shown 8 HCP ( D AJ, SK) , and so he probably has one big card outside (HA, CK). If he has 2, he has 8 tricks, so he probably has only one, perhaps with a quack as a kicker.

Seems like you can collect 6 tricks ( 3S, 2D, 1 heart/club ) if you can get P in to play a trump through declarer, and if you can avoid coming under pressure later.

A simple plan would be to win SQ, switch to CJ, win SA, guess whether to put P in with a club or the HA (by underleading HK), draw trump, exit with another club.

Just be clear, I wasn't yelling at you because it was a bad lead in my mind, I was yelling at you because it was sickeningly good.

I know. I shouldn't have posted it like that because others would not.

Yes, this seemed best to me too.

I played the club jack and partner won with the king. A diamond to the jack and queen came back and I cashed the diamond 10 to avoid being endplayed later. Partner discarded the heart 2 (udca).

I cashed the spade ace and heart king and exited with a club but anything reasonable would work. Partner even had the spade 9 so you can't get endplayed.
