x JT9xxx x Jxxxx.

You open 3H (I'm sure not everyones choice lol), LHO bids 3N, partner bids 4H, RHO bids 4S, LHO bids 6S, and partner Xs. Your lead.

looks like a minor lead.

partner either has a void and an ace cashing (diamonds) or AQ in a suit.

On the first one both minor leads beat, on the second we need to lead the right suit.

Clubs could not work if someone has singleton anyway, and diamonds might not be needed to be taken right now (but give 2 off), so it is still close between them.

I will go for a diamond because RHO can sometime have K and only a ruff beats the contract.

I will also say club. Partner should be prepared for a non-heart lead. LHO may have been bidding 3N on a long club suit and partner may be ruffing the opening lead. Alternatively, LHO may have been bidding 3N on a long diamond suit (likely), so we don't want to lead that unless partner has the A, in which case it may be cashing anyway.

This might be crazy. But I'll lead a . It's possible that RHO could throw losers on 's and 's in 6. On most layouts where partner sets 6 on a ruff, they'll make 6NT, and LHO almost surely would take out to 6NT. But off AK he wouldn't, since partner would be on lead.

That sounds all right to me.

Two rules:

  1) Not a trump

  2) Not our suit

yes obviously, im interested in reasons behind clubs vs diamonds.

A club, because with five of them, it is more likely teh mice can get to your club tricks in partner hand (using diamond or hearts to throw away club losers) than they can get to diamonds (seems they may have too many diamond losers to throw them all off on clubs and hearts if you guess wrong at trick one).

clubs.

You have clubs, and the same is true for

the NT bidder, i.e. there is a chance that

partner has a void in clubs.

Maybe he beats is on power, in which case

the lead does not destroy any, diamonds

bets on the Ace of diamond with partner.

With kind regards

Marlowe
