rockets fired into Israel

While trying to keep up with all the important news of the day such as Paris Hilton and will they force this young innocent to jail, I see 70 rockets were fired into Israel last week. One hit a school.

I understand why this news never hit my local papers or tv with all the other important stuff going on. I just wonder if Israel will find an effective defense, assuming it should try. Whatever Israel is doing to cause this I hope they can change it. :P

Israel cannot stop this.

The terrorists attacking Israel civilians do so wanting Israel to retaliate and because Israel will retaliate. Terrorists attack civilian people because the people's government will attack the terrorists in return, not because people or their government did something to the terrorists.

It doesn't appear to be much of an issue as the rockets rarely hit anything.

Last week Israel’s top public watchdog, State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, blasted the army for failing to tackle Palestinian rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.

The army says that about 300 rockets have been fired into Israel since a November ceasefire, under which Israeli troops withdrew from the territory and Palestinians agreed to halt rocket fire.

Most of the projectiles land in open ground, causing neither casualties nor damage.

I see that 70 rockets in one week landing on Israel gets little comment from over 20,000 bbo members...no wonder I did not see it on my local news. ;)

I am reminded of a favorite old aphorism from my youth:

Dog bites Man. That's not a story

Man bites Dog. Now that's a story...

Please note: I certainly don't claim that either the Israeli's or the Palestinians should be equated with either the Man or the Dog in this story.

I'm simply suggesting that Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel isn't particularly news worthy. In much the same fashion, its not particularly news worthy when the Israelis decide to erect yet another settlement complex in East Jerusalem, launch artillery shells into Gaza, or use helicopter gunships for a targeted assassination.

On any given Sunday, a bunch of folks are going to die in drunk driving in the US, a lot more are going to starve to death in Sudan, kill each other in Iraq, and die of AIDS in South Africa.

More over, its not going to make its way into the local papers, because all of these tragedies are expected as a normal part of life on this planet.
