ruotal
Hi all !Auctions :1♥ X 1♠ P2♥ 3♣ ?My hand : ♠ AJ8652 ♥ 82 ♦ K6 ♣ KQ7Since i will pass with a poor hand, is it forcing if I bid 3♠ ? In fact I bid 3♠ and my partner pass. I made 3 but 4♥ was there. My partner has : ♠Q ♥AK10976 ♦Q542 ♣J2 The take out X by opps revealed he has at least 4♠ but should I look for a better fit in ♠ than ♥ ? Should I bid 4♥ and dont reveal i have long ♠ ? Is it possible to find a chart or something showing what is forcing or not ? Thank you. andré
whereagles
I wouldn't take 3♠ as forcing, unless I were playing 1♥ (dbl) 2♠ as preemptive. That being said, I think I would dbl 3♣ A 4♥ bid after 3♣ is also good. Pard has 6 hearts, so there should be no problem with it. gwnn
Your RHO should promise a big hand with 6+ clubs and at least 8 playing tricks. You should X him, which should really be for penalties. I don't think 3♠ is forcing, it should show a competitive hand (~10 pts, 6+spades). With a better hand than that you can double for penalties or bid 4♣ (promising at least a doubleton ♥) or 3NT or 4♠. It would help to know the vulnerability, however. jdonn
I'll take the rare chance to agree with whereagles, double away! If partner passes it's juicy, if partner pulls you can just bid 4♥, easy.

kenberg
Last night, in a competitive auction, the opponents reached 5H. I held the AK of hearts and two side suit aces. I doubled. I got my AK of hearts. Minus 650. Perhaps it is right here to double but looking only at your hand, not at your partner's, I would be a little wary. As to bidding on, you have a known eight card heart fit, you have good values reasonably placed. As mentioned, vulnerability and form of scoring matters, as does your opinion of your rho, but I might try 4H. Or yes, I might double. I don't think 3S is forcing. Give partner a typical 1H opening and 2H rebid, and his question must be "Forced to do what?". Show again what he has already shown? Best to take the bull by the horns and double for penalties or bid the game you think best. I can't say I am sure which I would do.
