(2H)-3C-(3H)-??

I just learned from the commentators that this is a very tough call. However, I predict a unanimous BBF panel. (cherdano doesn't count because we have a bet on this)

Double. Take the sure plus.

3NT is too risky.

Sure plus??? Looking at that hand I'm not too sure 3H doesnt make-double seems just as risky if not more than 3NT to me. Unless you're saying double is a responsive double and asking p to bid again which would be OK IMO.

I dont fancy the 3NT chances, the opps are almost certain to have AKJ in hearts and are odds-on to have an outside entry (diamonds and clubs probably wont run), while 4D is practically game forcing, 3S will be taken as a natural 5+ suit by p. So 4C or 5C for me depending on how good p's 3 lvl overcalls are. Clubs should be fine as P should have a good club suit for a 3 level overcall in direct seat.

I know the hand so that means I cannot vote for what I would bid at the table if I didn't know the hand... Pass and my head hurts *g

Let's look at the options. The problem with 3NT is that if it goes small to King, through, you are down.

The problem with Pass is that you might miss 3NT.

The problem with Dbl is... You have no idea if you can make anything.

Last chance to bid 3N, I have gone down before. The problem with dble, which must be responsive, is you may never get to bid 3N when it is right unless partner happens to bid 3S and then you will not know whats right anyway. Partner does not expect you to be right 100% of the time, they simply expect you to make sensible decisions based on what you expect to work. The enemy have put the boots to me, I can congratulate if they get a plus for taking the position of bidding 3N.

Didn't I just write that if they lead a small from HJTxxx that you are two down before you started? 3NT is out.

Dbl is that penalty? Explain why. What do you bid with and ? (oh I forgot - 3NT...)

Dbl. Not sure what double means but probably something like this. Maybe I'd rather have more club support and a four-card spades. Or even a five-card spades. A typical example of a "the-hand-I-happen-to-have" double: this time, it's 75% penalty.

Double, responsive. Partner will often pass with a doubleton heart, which is fine. If partner bids 3S I shall bid 3NT, which implies great uncertainly about the final contract, and he can pass with something good in hearts. If he bids 4C I pass in pain. If he bids 4D I raise.

I think this is a tough call (and I wasn't commentating and don't know the hand).

I really can't face 3NT. I wouldn't really like it with Q10x and there's just too high a chance that i) they cash the first 6 hearts, ii) we don't have 9 tricks

I don't recall this hand, but I missed much of the first sessions each day, and pretty much all of the mother's day hands. But, I will disagree with the commentors a little. The hand is too good at imps to pass, and the hearts are not sound enough to bid 3NT. And no way will I bid past 3NT to bid that anemic diamond suit. so, it is responsive double for me. Hope I don't play in a 3-3 fit. Sad truth is, if I didn' it wouldn't be anywhere near the first time.

BTW, let us know what the "right bid" is... seems to be splitting between dbl and 3NT.
