Finch
About 3H-worth of brave, but second choice is to pass.
inquiry
If I preempt vulnerable on this, partner will never take me for this "weak". So pass is a strong, very stong option. With some partners I would be essentially forced to pass. On the other hand, vul versus vul, I only tend to promise 6 tricks for a 3 level preempt and with eight hearts, that is what I will win a fair amount of time, and Qxx of spades might muster a trick if parrtner has a spade card. So, I would (gulp) open 3♥. If it was we VUl, them not-vul, I would quietly pass.

SoTired
Pass???? I am not passing an 8-card suit even with my most conservative partner. Esp when the opps have a likely game and maybe a slam? Either 3H or 4H. 4H with my right thinking partners, 3H with the conservative ones.
Codo
chicken, pass. 3 Heart will hope to compare missing values with extra length. So I tell two wrongs to get one right? It is totaly possible to play preempts this way but my partner never understands this.
whereagles
3♥ for me preempts are about striking when it's right, not following rules. (completes clean sweep, phew!) :)

P_Marlowe
Hi, I am not going to pass, so I would say 3H, whichI would also bid unv.Unv. 3H is a bit on the light side, but I dont bid 4H, and I dont bid2H with a 8 carder, with a 7 carderyes, but not with an 8 carder. With kind regardsMarlowe
paulg
My opponent opened 2♥. My team mate passed. I prefer the latter but would probably open 3♥. Paul
jdonn
The one bid that makes no sense to me at all is 2♥. It shows nothing like this, tons of extra trumps don't compensate for having no strength or suit quality. What is next, x T98765432 Jx x? It is just asking to go (3♣) DBL (P) back to me and I won't have the slightest clue what to do. 3♥ for me.

Fluffy
3♥ for me, if held that today I would consider 1♠ also

Guest Jlall
4H. I cannot believe all the passers, perhaps I'm sick but pass seems way sicker.
mr1303
You wouldn't get me to open this 2H if you held a gun to my head. Bid 4 and see what happens. Hopefully I have Namyats available
SoTired
4H. I cannot believe all the passers, perhaps I'm sick but pass seems way sicker. You see what happens? You start passing a 7-carder and the next thing you know everybody thinks it is OK to pass an 8-carder. :P
BebopKid
I would not open this hand, but would jump to 4 over any opponent bid
han
People are bidding 2H with an 8-card suit, the world is going to end.
MickyB
[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sq84hq9876543d94c]133|100|Scoring: IMPHow brave are you feeling?[/hv] I opened 3♥, second choice was 4♥. IMO 2♥ is off the wall and pass isn't much better (I'm still opening 3♥ at red). I've already posted the problem that this gave the opponents here. paulg
At our table the 2♥ bidder passed his partner's double of my 5♦ and we went two down. Our team mate, who passed originally, felt that he could not pass his partner's double of the opening 5♦ bid and went down in 5♥. I thought he got what he deserved for not opening. poirot2nd
Of course you should pass. However, i am not sure whether i will bid 3H with this hand on table. If opps are weak, maybe i will.

If opps are weak, maybe i will.No-one at this particular event thinks they are weak. They may think that they are weaker than the opposition, but they still fancy their chances even if they are playing a Bermuda Bowl/Venice Cup-bound team.
