Background: You are playing vs weak opponents with a weak partner. Your general strategy is to make all the decisions and not really involve partner, and also try to make the opponents make bad decisions.

Ok, you hold at MP red/red QJT9x x --- KQT9xxx. 1D on your right, and with your general strategy in mind you try 5C. 5D quickly on your left, 6C by partner, slow 6D on your right. It is up to you, do you save?

If nobody has a clue what he's doing, the odds are 2-to-1 that it's opps who screwed up.

Pass :)

odds look even to me, since my 5 was a shot (not objecting to it, but it was a shot) and now I don't have a clue what to do: so I'd say it's at least 2-2 on that front. However, I am going to assume that I went right when I bid 5.. I think that, unless the auction tells you VERY clearly to the contrary, you stick with your original intention.. and this auction does NOT tell you that you went wrong by sticking it to everyone via 5...pass

I agree with most of the other posters. I took my shot my with 5, I am done. If I wanted to mastermind, I could bid 6 now and hope partner does the right thing and that the opponents do the wrong (yet again).

I sort of live by the rule once I preempt I am done, even if I was beging cute with the preempt. I have violated this rule a few times, usually with disasterous results.

I would not save - I'm sure that 7C would be a good save against 6D. However, partner could have 6d beat or the weak opponents could misplay it and go down because of the x-0 trump break. The other reason not to save is that they could easily be cold for grand and I don't want to push them there.

Partner is weak, but it is not stupid, he rates to have support, and shortness (where else?) for a vulnerable save against game. We are probably gonna make at least 1 spade, and have small chances on the 4 suits for another, pass looks in order.

There is also the chance he bid 6 to make, but then he is not gonna pass 6. Pass looks best to me

Funny, on the occasions that my opponents have preempted and bid again against me, by and large they've done OK.

However, here I must stay quiet. I've already stirred the pot more than enough. All I can do is sit tight and hope partner doesn't put us in an even deeper stew than we might already be.

I wouldn't save because I don't want to upset partner if we have it beat. Weak partners are more understanding if you fail to find the sacrifice.

This may not be the right outlook on this hand, but depending on your partner's personality it may be right for your relationship in the long run.

Was pass an option with this hand in second seat, given your parameters?

Your plan would be to listen carefully to the bidding and take control later with your superior judgement.
