nikos59
Hi all During the Argentinian Open Trials that were played on April 22 andwere transmitted by BBO, Agustin Madala had a freak hand: S ---H ---D Q J 8 x x xC A K J x x x x Yes, a 7-6-0-0! At love all his partner passed, RHO opened 1H.What would you overcall over 1H? He chose 6C but LHO bid 6H and Madala passed. Unfortunately for him, partner had A 10 xx in diamonds and a singletonclub, the king of diamonds was on, hence 7D was on! Still worse, in the other room they bid and made 7Dx dbled. Even still worse, LHO was singleton in clubs as well, so 6H was also on. It is one of the very rare hands where one team bids and makes slam at both tables, even rarer when both slams are unbeatable. Unfortunately, the match was transmitted at one table only....Hence we do not know what was the bidding at the other table(I just guess it went slower). Question: Does anyone know how was the bidding at the other table? No need to ask about the play. TIANikos Sarantakos
inquiry
I don't have the auction, but I would have bid 5NT with this hand, partner will pull to 7D I think. So I would "guess" that was the auction.
nikos59
This is most probable -or perhaps a 6H bid was interjected.
kenrexford
I don't understand. Opener only has 11 points. Unless he was using light initial action,l he did not even have an opening hand. And then his partner is supposed to bid a grand slam with only four points?!?!? Y'all are crazy. B)
jdonn
I wouldn't defend with this hand until the opponents were in 7 of something, unless the auction has already told me partner is short in the minors and wants to double them or something. You would be the first I have ever seen bidding an unusual 6N B)
Gerardo
It was not Agustín, but his brother Adolfo Andrés (not their father Adolfo Daniel, who is playing the South American Senior Championship). Check bridge.la No. 17 for the bidding and the development of the play in the other room (in spanish, but perhaps understable anyway). han
I'd bid 2NT.
Guest Jlall
I'd bid 2NT. I guess there's no hand you'd bid 4N with :)
skjaeran
I'd bid 2NT. I guess there's no hand you'd bid 4N with :) Asking for aces probably...... :P Seriously - 4NT seems obvious (5NT is probably one too many initially).
nikos59
Many thanks Gerardo -just a question: is Adolfo Andres younger or olderthan Agustin? nikos
mcphee
This bozo like 4H over the 1H opening, better hand than 4NT for minors. Seems to me that might have been a bases loaded homer.

I don't see what it matters since if you bid 4NT you are raising partner anyway. At least that doesn't let them bid 4♠ in the meantime, or double the 4♥ bid. Gerardo
Older, but still a junior (at least, last year he was).
