whereagles
I would bid 1NT all the time. It cannot possibly be wrong to bid your hand in 1 go.
mike777
Double but 1D is ok...not 1nt here. I seem to have an easy pass if partner bids one of a major over my x.

So pard with Jxx KJxx xx Kxxx will bid 1H off the double, but will bid stayman after the 1NT and you will get to the right contract and level. What is the range of your 1nt overcall 15-18 is very common. 1nt does not seem to help. Are you saying getting to 3nt is easy here?
han
I would bid 1D.
Al_U_Card
If the opening had been 1 of a major and I held the same hand with Kx in that major, I would overcall 2D. 1 D is not for me....I like to help my pard and not hide stuff from him. On this auction, we can play in 2NT with the shown hand.....the option is that 1D on the 5-2 fit will not be superior to the NT and it restricts your options when pard holds a hand with "interest". The declarer play becomes easier with all the high cards being known and mostly well placed.
marcD
Definitely a matter of style : with my partners, 1D is constructive and i am not going to miss a game if my partner has some values. I can live with double but partner will expect better majors and will stretch to be bid 2M or even 2C . The only minus of 1D is that it is boring / too obvious. Not sure I need the preemption of 1NT and 3NT will likely play better from my partner's hand so for me1D 10Dbl 71NT 5 (who said RHO has clubs anyway ?)
