Free
You hold:[hv=d=w&v=n&s=skhkj765dcakqj932]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv](note that it's MP, we're unfavorable) The auction starts:1♦ - pass - 3♦ - ??? (opps play a very standard system, so opener shows 4+♦, and responder should show 10-11hcp and 4+♦) You don't have any agreements about 4♣ being a 2-suiter, so it's natural for sure. What do you bid? And what's your plan later on?
gwnn
I think I'd bid 4NT but that is bad if 4♥ is the spot. X is second choice, which will work suboptimally over pd's 4♠ bid.
whereagles
I'd bid 3♥ and follow-up with 5♣ if given that chance.
P_Marlowe
5C, at least I will play game.Over 5D I can still bid 5H, if giventhe chance. With kind regardsMarlowe
pbleighton
You didn't specify what 3D was. If preemptive, 5C. If invitational, 4C. Peter
Apollo81
4♣. This will work really well in three cases. 1. one of the opponents bids 4♦ and it comes back to me2. the hand is badly misfit (for instance if partner has 5152 shape)3. the opponents double me (we are RED at MPs)
kenrexford
Double for me. I'm not all that upset about converting 4♠ to 5♣.
pclayton
Nice Frederick. You had to make this MPs, so hearts becomes an attractive strain. You had to make us at adverse, so -500 against -400 becomes a real worry. I'll start with 5♣. If I catch pard with some heart fillers, that just makes 5♣ easier to handle. Over the expected 5♦, I'll take the bait and bid 5♥. Considering the ♥Q and a little length and nothing else gives me a good play, I can't see selling out to 5♦, even though it could be a riduculous contract. gwnn
If 5♣ is a good bid, why isn't 4NT better? It has to be UNT.
Guest Jlall
Pedestrian 5C for me. I don't see any reason to think any other bid I make will not end the auction.
Guest Jlall
If 5♣ is a good bid, why isn't 4NT better? It has to be UNT. because one of your suits is 7 solid and the other is KJxxx... why would you want to play 5H and not 5C?
