I was one of 42 kibitizers to watch this hand. This was the only pair to get to 6NT, one pair got to 6D. 6NT was down two. What was the single worse bid, and who deserves the blame for this disaster (lost 13 imps).

PS. I am using this to test the many poll options.... which explains all the choices. Also, feel free to comment on the correct bidding.

2 spades is the worst bid. West has a perfectly good 2NT call. If East has spades, he will use NMF and the fit will be found. The 2 Spade call implies, better spades, and more diamonds. After a 2NT call, East will sign off (Maybe after NMF) in 3NT

Interesting hand.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the partnership is playing Standard.

2S has to be one of the worst bids that I have seen in a long time.

However, perpetrated this monstrosity clearly doesn't understand the basics of reversing.

With this said and done, I find it difficult to understand why East is looking to play in a Spade Moysian rather than his known 9 card Diamond fit. [sure, its only an eight card Diamond fit, but it SHOULD be nine+]

As for the auction

1D - 1H 1D = 3+ Diamonds, 1H = 4+ Hearts

2N - 3C 2N = Balanced 18-19, 3C = Checkback

3S - 4D 3S = 4 Spades, 2 Hearts [implies 4 Diamonds], 4D = sets trump

4H - 5C 4H = Cue bid (don't show shortage opposite partner's suit], 5C = cue bid

5D - ??? 5D = nothing more to show

Not sure if I would pass or bid 6D

I think E 's 2S horrible - has a PERFECT 2NT ---- and then using NMF they end in 3NT :D

I agree 2S is a bad bid and 2N is just perfect. But I think 6N is the worst bid. pd's jump to 6D, after showing h and s spt, implies he must be short in c. his 2S, though bad, has already fully showed his value. He has no reason to change pd's 6D bid. I will always pass in this kind situation. Even it is wrong, pd will not blame me for passing that, as what he bid is what he think we can make.

2s is horrible but it was east who destroyed the hand.

3s instead of a normal 3d is crazy and 6d is absurd.

I can even symphatize with west for bidding 2s since his pd was surely a monster from an horror movie.

I totally agree with this, but I know about none of you play 1 sp as forcing here, since an earlier post. But I am one of the sane :D people that just rebids 1 sp. And after that the auction has no problem at all.

1D- 1H

1Sp- 3 D

4D = RKC for D and still have possibility to sign of in 4 NT

That being said, I therefore think of all the bad bids, 2 SP is by far the worse. By rebidding 2 SP y are suggesting an unbalanced hand with long D and better spades.

AM I really the only one that plays a natural system, kinda, that actuallu thinks ahead ???

I play 1 over 1 as forcing too.

Unfortunate that we have so much choice over the worst bid as clearly 2S, 3S, 6D and 6NT are contenders.

However 3S looks the worst, especially in the context of a subsequent 6D, closely followed by the 2S bid.

I don't believe that 6NT is that bad, since it's very hard to construct a hand that supports spades first and then diamonds so trying to find a potentially playable spot looks reasonable.

At least the partnership shares the blame.
