BBO Freezing

I'm getting increasing incidences of BBO freezing while I'm playing - sometimes it catches up suddenly - often I can't wait that long. I'm still getting Internet access during these pauses because I can communicate via skype.

I recall someone asked about this before but can't find the mail. Is there something I should be doing at my end to resolve the problem?

The most visible symptom is that the number of people logged in remains unchanged for some time - and using task manager I can see very little traffic.

If it is my ISP at fault (Pipex), what should I be telling them to get it fixed?

Any other hints?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions, it is getting frustrating and it seems a reboot is the only way to solve the problem.

I have been experiencing this lately too, my BBO session hangs completelty. It just looks to me like I am waiting for someone to bid/play.

My other internet sessions are working ok.

I asked for some help and recieved an email regarding frequent disconnects, its perhaps not quite the same problem.

My biggest issue is sitting down in a reserved seat for a set game and having the BBO client crash. After waiting 15-30 seconds for the server to respond, I have to abort by clicking "log off" and relogin to BBO. Usually the reserved seat prompt that I see upon entering BBO takes me to my seat without problems.

I am on a 10Mb shared university line most of the time, and occasionally on wireless, and haven't encountered any problems while playing.

Am still investigating the problem with my ISP - currently thinking seems to be that BBO uses port 9999 - which is often used for peer-to-peer downloads and may be throttled by the ISP at times of high demand - hence the delays.

Does this make any sense to those more technically competent than me?

Yes, it makes sense.

Try editing

c:\bridge base online\bbover.ini

change

ServerPort1=9999

to

ServerPort1=80

save the file, start BBO and see if it helps to use port 80. if it does not, undo the changes :)

I have the new version 5.0.3 and I tried the "ServerPort1=80" without improvement. What bothered me is that all the other applications are running properly. I sent a message to BBO support who suggested me several propositions, without success. I am still looking for solutions as I cannot play in any tournament. My neighbour has the same freezing problem : he has a different configuration, more RAM, different links but the same ISP.

I have checked the connection as follows:

Thanks for help

As an update, I am pretty convinced my problem has nothing to do with BBO. It is just the nature of the application that makes it obvious when an unrelated problem occurs. I think it is something to do with DNS servers and my ISP (Pipex) though, needless to say, they don't agree... :D

hi

My broadband connection is generally satisfactory. However when connectivity issues occur i find that i have absolutely zero network traffic .. either BBO or any other internet-dependent program. I have contact my ISP during several of these 'dead' periods and on checking the line they claim that my broadband box/connection appears to be working perfectly. I doubt that the problem is BBO fault. (I have tried the changing port suggestion -- makes no difference in my case). Even switching all hardware off and re-booting usually does not clear the problem, so I'd guess that it's not some obscure memory corruption bug.

..Difficult to know where to go next as ISP disclaims any responsibility for the problem.

For the time being i just have to endure occasional periods of up to 90mins of zero network traffic.
