Guest Jlall
4D. It's a good 2 way shot at white/white MP since 3H will probably make given our communication problems in which case 4D is good even if down 2 and even if 3H is down 4D might make if partner happens to have good diamonds and the CT or SQ or a stiff spade. I would guess they're making too often to make this a good gamble, especially since as opposed to passing it rates to only turn 50 into 100 even when it works. pclayton
4♦ is fine. Not 4♣; against a possible 4♠ we want the diamond lead, not the club lead. Both double and 5 of a minor are crap shoots guessing how many clubs and hearts pard holds.
Impact
I don't think there is a "right" answer to this one, and 4D is probably the percentage bid - except for one little problem - if the next hand bids 4H or they get to 4S and you have never bid your 6 card solid suit, and it happens to be right to save/make 5m how do you explain that to partner? At least that is a greater problem at imps, which is why I think that 4D is likely the better MP bid, but don't ignore the dangers!! I think I bid 4D at MP but 4C at imps... regards
