Differentiate 2N

Recommended Posts

After the specific instance of a Jacoby Transfer to diamonds, it seems that at least one of the auctions should be club-preferring, maybe even 6-4.

Ken are you reading this right?

There isn't a transfer to 's; the 1st auction is meant to read 2 / 2.

I suppose a 2 transfer could be doubled, and compete to 3 to show a minor 2 suiter; but there isn;t that luxury over a 2 transfer.

There are many hands with which I would deem far too risky to bid immediately over a transfer, but when RHO limits their hand with a pass I would balance.

There are many better hands where I'd want to bid immediately.

You cannot do this because you cannot be sure the auction will go 1N P 2D p 2H p p.

LHO may bid 2H and RHO may bid 3H. LHO may bid 3H over 2D. It may come back to you at 4H.

If you could not bid immediately with a hand with both minors preferring clubs immediately then you may miss a good save, or be shut out of a game if LHO super accepts. If you choose to act even if the auction has come back to you at 3H or 4H then you will just be guessing and wont have been able to enlist partners cooperation.

If you have a good offensive hand with both minors you need to get them both in immediately before its too late. This will not happen if you have to X or pass first.

Agree, a direct overcall shows a better offensive hand. Passing then bidding 2NT is also for minors, but worse hand

2 dN/dt of course.

Agree with this. In addition, trying to agree on all such auctions before your life ends is too large a task.

Presumably you would double with better/longer diamonds, and you could agree to do that as well with equal length/quality.

Hmmm ... I would still bid 2N with 5-5 if I had no particular preference for a lead.
