Recovering FD

Recommended Posts

Hey,

In case you formatted only part of your hard drive, do a search (Start...Search...Files and Folders) on all the hard drives of your computer for filenames of "*.bss" which will find any such convention cards on your machine. If you used it at all, check with your partners or opponents - maybe they saved an older version. Did you ever email the file to anybody? Burn it to CD?

I had prepared a cc based on Alan Sontag's Power Precision.Unfortunately while reformatting my pc I deleted it.Is there any way I could recover it?

Did you ever use it on line (at the BBO)? If so, a copy should be on the BBO server. Login to bbo, pick the "work convention card" and see if it is there for you.

If that doesn't do it, there could be some comfort in the fact that formatting a drive doesn't delete the information, but the new software you installed will overwrite much of what was on the drive. The chance to recover depends a lot on where the files were located on the drive and if they were fragmented or not.

There are forensic companies that can get this back for you, but the cost would be prohibitive to recover a self-made FD file. There are also some commercial tools you could buy and try to do this for yourself, but the skill set to figure out how to use them, and the variability of their success suggest that if it is not on the BBO server, best just to give up and start over.
