pbleighton
Pass on the first, 3NT on the second. Peter
pclayton
1. Totally disagree with 3D. Its my 4th choice behind 4C, 3S and 3H. No idea what I'd bid now. 2. 3C is a double negative? I'd probably bid 3N but pass is probably best. (Edited)

Also there are hands on which pd will pass 3M on which you will be cold for game with this hand. For me 4C, 3S, 3H in that order - not 3D
mr1303
Agree with the other posts, 3D has left me completely stuck. Apart from anything else, this looks like an underbid, let alone missing a fit in either major. If I can double again for take-out, I might try that, but partner won't know what's going on, and certainly won't play me for a hand with a major holding like this. I would say dbl is penalty. With kind regardsMarlowe
whereagles
1. Given the stategical blunder of last round, I'll just have to pass now :) 2. 3NT and a frown :)
jocdelevat
one more question for board one:do you change your options in this auction 3c double pass ? if your pick up pard is from Europe.(most of the time I cannot bet on the shape that an european pard double for take out). I saw the responses were 4c, 3s 3h rather than 3d.
helene_t
1. Not sure if 3H or 3S would have been better in the previous round. Usually it's better to bid the highest ranking of two suits so that partner can take preference at the same level when you offer your second suit. But in this case, a 4-3 fit does not apeal. I think I prefer 3H, just to allow p to bid the other major at the 3-level if he is very strong. Anyway, I'd bid 4C. Now that I forgot to look for a major fit, I have to pass. If I bid 4H, partner will bid 5D with a 4342. 2. Pass if 3S is not forcing. Otherwise 3N.
mcphee
On the first hand example I think you need to bid 4C and play what ever major partner would like. To bid 3D does nothing for us, partner will likely pass when a major game is gin. The second hand example I bid 4S. Passing after partner has opened 2C and then shown S is a non option. Maybe we go down, but that is just too bad I hardly think partner is expecting me to pass 3S.

If I started with 3♠ I would certainly bid 4♥ later if given the chance. 2. 3NT
mikeh
1. I agree with all who detest the 3♦ call: it was godawful. I would have bid 3♠... 3♥ to cater to partner bidding 3♠ is not a persuasive argument: if his ♠ hand is strong enough to double and bid, then bidding 3♠ won't cost... nor will 3♠ get in the way of a hand strong enough to double and bid 4♥ over 3♠. I am not quite strong enough to cue 4♣... altho I have more than a sneaking suspicion that partner is not 4=4 in the majors... the lack of an immediate ♣ raise is very suspicious... altho this is obviously a B/I game (given the 3♦ bid and the delayed 4♣ call). Having made this absurd 3♦ call, I am endplayed. I think I just about have to pass and hope that either partner can rescue me (how, is not exactly clear) or, more probable, that RHO's delayed raise was because he is loaded in the majors and was hoping to defend a major suit contract. 2. As for what I bid in the 2♣ auction, I pass. Of course, much depends on methods, but in the partnerships I am familiar with over the years, 2♣ then 2♠ establishes a force only to 3♠... and that's where we are.... so unless we have a different agreement, pass looks like the right call.
