"Personally I don't like the new software"

Sorry to be negative, but I agree with Luis on this.

It took me some time to get used to the new software

I have decided that I prefer, since it is much easier to track "new" posts

I haven't made enough posts yet to offer an expert opinion; however, I dislike emoticons in all except "live chat". I have always felt that prose does not need special symbols. One simply says what one means.

Hyperbole and other ways of expressing oneself are part of using one's language.

That said, so you know where I stand, I would gladly give up all the "Clickable Smilies" for the four suit symbols.

I can see the suit symbols in Misho's post, but I cannot reproduce them on my Mac. By the way, test using "Preview" rather than posting!!!

It is still early for passing judgement, but so far I prefer the new Forum software to the old. That may be partly that the appearance seems cleaner and crisper to me -- but that is largely a personal preference.

I added a new line in the Tags section of the Posting pages, it has the Four Suits and a button for entering one hand (only 4 parameters, sorry).

This is shown as a table, as we can define direct html inside these tags.

Please try them and comment.

Onehand, for now, doesn't allow modifications like this (HTML is not my strong suit).

Trpltrbl, please use them. Don't know what you use for the suits, but I can't see it.

When use use one hand button, be sure to enter commas at the end of each hand. For instance.... the data for the hands below was entered as

AKQ,AKQJ,AKQ]432 : except to separate diamonds from clubs use close bracket not comma. Not sure why the D symbol looks like a square on my computer, or why a bracked instead of a comma to separate minors.

Hi Gerardo!

Thank you very much for addons and hope you to continue with bidding and play

You can include them simple way by single tags like "[bid_head], [bid_row], [play_head] and [play_row]" - there are only 4 parameters too.

Try of new bridge symbols:

Try of new one hand script:

AKQJ
AKQ
AK10
1098

Comment: this simple try work well, but DI looks like square, like Ben's computer.

Try of new bridge symbols, font Arial, DI=rhomb:

Try of new bridge symbols, font Times, DI=square:

Try of new bridge symbols, font Courier, DI=rhomb:

Try of new bridge symbols, font Impact, DI=rhomb:

Try of new bridge symbols, font Geneva, DI=square:

Try of new bridge symbols, font Optima, DI=square:

Comment: Trying different fonts shows mistake of displaying DI with some fonts.

Suggested solution: change default font for all forum to Arial or Courier, or if it is not possible, at least add-on tags font, please.

Trying "ONEHAND" script with different fonts, lead to error and corruption of post symbols of SP,HE,DI and CL, sorry, this must be debuged and corrected...

" parse error in /home/bridge2/public_html/forums/sources/mods/bbcode/mod_bbcode_func.php(166) : eval()'d code on line 42"

Misho, now fan of Gerardo's efforts!

Found the diamond thing is browser dependent:

Arial

Times

Courier

Impact

Geneva

Lucida

Optima

Verdana

IE has problems with the Diamond Suit Symbol (it doesn't show well in the first two sets), while Mozilla shows the Diamond Symbol too big. For now, I left the Diamond Symbol, so it will show better in IE.

Should I add buttons for the outlined symbols?

The ONEHAND issue was fixed, but not all options work. I found FONT does work in IE, but not color (works above the hand, not after, not inside). Size doesn't work, change spacing but not actual size.

Surely related to the fact ONEHAND defines a table, and some attributes has to be defined inside it to work.

6 buttons added to post screens to enter hands via forms.

NO error nor consistency of any kind checked for now.

UPDATE: the example given here is NOT valid anymore  Suits have to be entered from higher card to lower, 10 being entered as "T", "10" won't be accepted.

UPDATE: First hand is checked for at most 13 cards, others have to have same number as the first one.

UPDATE: Check that cards are not repeated.

Thanks to previewers (inquiry, JRG, Free and Misho)

Hidden text... Hey I can see cool applications of that.

Quess what the first one of them is?

To hide answers to questions until people want to click on them to see. Did you click on this answer to see it?

Use your mouse to Select the entire white space above to see the answer. This is what hidden text does. :-)

Hi.

How can I insert some nonbreaking spaces between 1H and 1S in :

1      1

I would like to get 1 6 spaces far from 1

TIA

Erkson

In the old forum we had some font changes we could use to do this. Here I see only two options to put six spaces between 1H and 1S or 1 and 1 to change:

example 1

1 1 to...

example 2

1

------

1, or

example 3

1      1

In the frist example I put in six spaces, like you did in your post, this shows up as only one space. Example 2 I used the hidden text option (one of the nice buttons) to put in text that doesnot show up unless you point at it with your mouse. The third example shows that in "quotes" the spaces that don't show up in example 1 are displayed. You can also see this by looking at the section of your post that I quoted where you six spaces magically reappeared.

Note however, if you quote a section wiht hidden text, funny things happen. Like this....(see the dashes I used?)

1

-------

1

Which means people who quote your "bidding" in replies will have this ghost like thing in the quotes if they don't stop to replace the hidden stuff with real blanks. NOTE: don't use blanks as hidden text or the extra "spaces" still don't show up. Hope this helps.

Many thanks for the information, Ben.

Normal HTML reduces always to one single space all series of spaces it meets.

To avoid it one must use "hard spaces" (aka non breaking spaces) whose code is

I think I found the way to insert non breaking spaces in these forum pages: the code is  &-#160; (without '-' between first two signs. I had to put that '-' so that you see the code. If I didn't you would see only a space !).

each   &-#160; adds a hard space :

1             1

You probably remember :

West North East South

1H 1S 2N! 4S

5C Pass 5H Dbl

Rdbl Pass Pass Pass

As you see all spaces disappear with this normal HTML new forum software.

With the &-#160; code the lining up reappears !

The program now reads a .lin file and creates automatically:

[hv=d=w&v=b&n=saqj53hj82dj63ct8&w=s2hakt95dq94ca964&e=sk84h7643dkt52ck5&s=st976hqda87cqj732]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

West    North   East    South

1       1       2N!      4

5       Pass     5       Dbl

Rdbl     Pass     Pass     Pass

Before using the &-#160; I couldn't get a correct lining up of the auction.
