You are sitting East.

1NT(15-17)- 3 - X - pass - 3 - pass - 3NT all pass[/hv]

Matchpoints. Partner leads the ace clubs and continues with the queen. Next comes the queen of from dummy. Cover?

I would never even give covering the slightest thought. Playing low is automatic. For the reasons given by Jutsin above. Add that declarer might have Ax - it might still be wrong to cover since the suit will then be set up.

I believe this to be more of a pychological problem than cardplay problem.

First question - why did partner play Ace and Queen?

Answer: He must have an immediate entry in the spade Ace.

Question 2: why is declarer taking an immediate finesse into the dangerous hand?

Answer: he probably is not, unless he is playing wildly for top/bottom. The contract looks fairly normal, so 6 diamonds and 1 club for down 2 shouldn't be a disaster - disaster would be down 3, losing 5 clubs + 1 heart + 1 spade.

The most likely scenarior is that declarer holds AJ of hearts and is simply trying to entice a cover - his plan without a cover most likely is to play the Ace, hoping for a singleon offside King. If he does hold AJx and 4H is making, in 3N he will be forced to take the finesse and covering will set up the heart suit, so still there is no reason to cover.

Covering only wins in one situation - Ax in declarer's hand when he will run the "Chinese" finesse for his ninth trick - unless this is Billy Eisenberg behind the wheel....

I am not covering.

East(a fine player) played a small , but did it like a thunder. I didn't have the... thing.... to play small. Next time, maybe.
