jdonn
Without claiming this was brilliantly played or bid (though you may think it was hehe) this hand came up playing with AWM last night. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sxxhqjxxdxck9xxxx&w=skhaktxxxdakt6ctx&e=sqjtxxxh9xxd9caqx&s=sa9xxhdqj87xxxcjx]399|300|Scoring: IMPS W N W- - - -P 1C* P 1H*3D X* All Pass 1C = Precision1H = SpadesX = Penalty[/hv] Adam led the heart ace which was ruffed, and declarer played a club to the king and my ace. I cashed the queen and led a low spade (I knew pard had a stiff honor so hoped declarer would fly king from Kxxx) to the king, and pard led the king of hearts which was also ruffed. Declarer tried to cash the spade ace but Adam ruffed, and took the AK of diamonds, leaving this. [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sxxhqjxxdxck9xxxx&w=skhaktxxxdakt6ctx&e=sqjtxxxh9xxd9caqx&s=sa9xxhdqj87xxxcjx]399|300|Scoring: IMPS W N W- - - -P 1C* P 1H*3D X* All Pass 1C = Precision1H = SpadesX = Penalty[/hv] He exited ten of diamonds, but declarer forgot to duck! The reason I say it's only "almost" a "book" hand is because Adam didn't have AKT2 of diamonds, where he would have had to ruff the spade with the T to leave himself the 2 for an exit. I've seen this play in a number of books and articles of ducking the low trump for an endplay, but never at the table. Cool stuff!
skjaeran
Nice hand Josh.Adam failed to ruff with the ten - not so easy to do, one often plays just a little too fast....Declarer probably was down to QJ8 in the end position? It's not a very frequent play - it's happened to me a couple of times (I've been able to duck to endplay opps and been on the receiving end too). He didn't ruff with the 10 but I can't fault him anyway since you of course know declarer could save the 2 himself. In fact ruffing low may give us a better chance to set, since when declarer realizes he ruffed high holding a low one it may "wake him up" when he wouldn't have paid attention on a low ruff. Who knows.
