With a pick-up "expert" pard, even at imps, white vs red, I couldn't imagine his hand on that auction....but the raise to 3NT opposite a passed hand? Please tell me I will wake up soon!?

the 3N bid was consistent with the 2 bid: obviously he held an additional 2 Aces during the bidding, and was no doubt extremely annoyed when they disappeared on laying down his hand as dummy.... now... if the bridge demons who stole his Aces had given them to you, all would have been well :P

It's actually not the 3NT bid that was so bad, it's the 2 bid. This is like a reverse and shows a strong hand, and partner was obviously confused about that. You were probably trying to get out with 2NT and he thought you had an 11-count with a diamond stopper.

I suppose it would be quarrelsome to ask him what he believes your proper call is over 2S. I am pretty sure 1N is not allowed.

Pass of course, wtp. Aren't you even capable of passing a forcing bid? No expert, obviously.

But you could ask him what you would have to bid with

Reminds me of a bidding problem at the German individual championships.

LHO: 2nd league player

RHO: 1st league player

MHO: Female player 3x my age without a clue

White vs red:

1 (Dbl) ?

[hv=d=n&v=e&s=saxxxhqxxxdqxxcqx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv]

Noticing the hopeless situation if partner would declare, you respond 1NT. The auction continues badly for you:

1 (Dbl) 1NT (Pass)

2 (3) ?

You know RHO and at these colours he would have a very good hand for 3. Your bid?

additionally the +++ means that they share their wellfound bridgeknowledge as a commentator of vuegraphmatches, outch......

Luckily that's not true if the table description is said to EXPERT+++ ONLY!!! The three pluses only count in the personal profile.

However,

multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign of a diseased mind.

BTW pass was a way to get a worse score than me :P

I am used to be endplayed in the bidding kinda often, there is no answer to this, it is just random and the bame will all go to you whatever you do.

What's wrong with an old lady? If you trust you partner you bid 4, if you don't (but you do trust RHO) you pass. You could bid 3 as a compromise. I must have missed something. To me it doesn't look like a major problem.

Okay, changed to "female player 3 times my age without a clue".

The "problem" is that you have 10 HCP and RHO, the best player at the table, promised 17, leaving only 13 for dear partner.

Perhaps female is not necessary (since she was 3x your age...unless you like raisins.....omg! did I say that?)

btw, is RHO good enough to psyche on a hand that wanted to pre-empt with 8 and no outside stoppers?

I would always trust my partner and bid accordingly...so I would not try 4 but just bid a nice 4 ;-)

I suddenly realize how the famous script error happened that turned those "72 raisins" into "72 virgins":

Soldier: What award do I get if I blow myself up in a Jewish temple?

Mohamed: Let me see .... do you like raisins?

Soldier: Not a problem, as long as they are virgins .... HAHAHA!

Mohamed: (ROFLMAO) That's a deal!

Distrusting partner at the right moment is crucial in an individual tournament. I bid 3 which was correct. Although 4 could be made (and should be made on the auction) not by this partner otherwise I would not have tried 1NT.

Partner had a 5 - 5 black 2-suiter and less than a minimum opener (NINE HCp, okay nice ones but still...).
