bid_em_up
[rant] How hard can it be for a persons score to automatically be zero when they sit at a table? They get their own new hand record/movie and go from there. No more score resets. The only reason a person wants it, is so they can see how they themselves are faring. I, for one, consider it quite annoying that as table host, every time a new person sits, the first words out of their mouths is usually "RESET SCORE PLEASE" and usually they only stay for a hand or two. As table host, why should I have to lose MY hand records in order to reset THEIR score? And now, even though the table profile says "NO SCORE RESETS", because I would like to be able to keep up with my own score, or to go back and look at hands when dummy, what do you think the first thing they still ask is?? It is really annoying when a simple change to assigning their own individual movie and score would solve the problem. [/rant]
jdonn
I don't really care for the tone of that post, but I wholeheartedly second the request.
fred
Sorry. This may be difficult for you to imagine but it really is complicated. You can blame it on me (and not Uday) for poor initial design. This is not going to change any time soon. bid_em_up
I don't really care for the tone of that post, but I wholeheartedly second the request. Rants usually aren't in a friendly tone, thats why it was a rant. :) I apologize for the "tone" Fred. But I was quite frustrated after spending an afternoon playing, getting new opps, having every one of them DEMAND that I reset the score, and then making insulting comments when I wouldn't, even though the table profile clearly stated, "No Score Resets". And I wasnt "blaming" it on anybody, just frustratingly requesting to get it corrected. Btw Fred, I am a programmer by trade also, just not in C or Java. There may be some "technical" reason why you cannot do this (an explanation would be nice) or it may be more effort than you think it is worth to correct at this point (obviously it is, in your opinion, which is the only one that matters around here :)), but programatically it certainly is accomplishable. If nothing else, they could be allowed to reset their own score (if the problem lies with pushing a new scoreboard out to them). Oh well, I guess for now, I will just have to continue to take the abuse for refusing to reset. Thx anyway.
barmar
The problem, presumably, is that the score is associated with the table, not the players. So it would require significant redesign to split it into per-player scores that allow each of them to reset his own.
fred
The problem, presumably, is that the score is associated with the table, not the players. So it would require significant redesign to split it into per-player scores that allow each of them to reset his own. Essentially that is correct. Besides that, fixing this would require changes to both the client and the server and careful consideration of backwards compatibility issues. We are currently spending whatever time we have for development these days working on some new software (hope to announce the release of a prototype before too long). Shifting gears to work on new versions of the existing software (plus all the subsequent testing and tech support that would be required) would be a giant distraction for us. This is especially true given that we do not like to release new versions to the general membership unless there are substantial improvements or important new functionality. While the change suggested would no doubt be appreciated by many people, it does not come close to being enough to justify a new release for the general membership (and all the ensuing problems that inevitably come from such a release). I am hopeful that when people see the new software they will find it easier to accept that the rate of improvement of the existing BBO software rates to drop dramatically from what they have become accustomed to during the past several years. bid_em_up
Fred, Not to beat a dead horse, but can you tell me if this issue will be corrected/fixed in the "latest and greatest" release that is being worked on? B) Thx.
fred
Fred, Not to beat a dead horse, but can you tell me if this issue will be corrected/fixed in the "latest and greatest" release that is being worked on? B) Thx. I can't make any promises, but I can tell you that we recognize that the current state of affairs is far from ideal. Right now there are many things we have to concern ourselves with that are much more important than this issue. You will understand soon enough. I am not trying to be a tease. In the past we have almost always been unusually forthcoming (for a software company I mean) about our development plans. For various reasons we have decided to keep our new project more or less a secret, but I expect that it won't be long before we let the secret out.
