bid, pass, double?

Recommended Posts

I think you have to double. While this is a minimum hand, the good news is that you are 1=2 in the majors... this would be much tougher with 2=1 and the same hand: in fact, I'd pass with that hand.

Consider: your shortage makes it likely that LHO is raising, so that partner will be shut out unless he has a great hand. Consider that a 12 count such as xx AQxxx Kxxx Kx gives a good play for game, and we can see that we really do not want to sit back and allow the opps to steal from us.

And the safety of the 1=2 major shape means that we may survive a 3 bid by partner (I am with Justin in that I'd pass 3... I'd need to be on steroids to bid 4)

If partner bids 3H, raise to 4.

wow, I was with you until that part :(

I like the stiff spade. Partner has no wasted values in spades (if he didnt bid 2N). He doesnt have a 4 card minor. He quite likely has 6 hearts. All of this assumes that LHO didn't raise spades.

It's aggressive, yes. But we are vulnerable, and I'm willing to risk it. It also helps that I prefer a sound approach to 2/1 in 1st/2nd seats so partner does not hold a trashy hand. :)
