jtfanclub
I suppose nobody uses 3♥ to show this hand?
whereagles
Sci: keri transfer to 2♥, followed by 3NT shows this kind of hand. Usually opener passes with a Hx doubleton and bids 4♥ otherwise.
pbleighton
This is one of the very few times I bid 3NT with an identified 8 card major suit fit. Peter
mikeh
A style issue is important here: what would partner have rebid with, say, KQx KQxxx Kxx xx? If he would have rebid 1N (and I would), then raising to 3N is a bit risky. I'd like to use whatever artificial bid I have at the 2-level: for me, that is 2♦. If partner bids 2♠, then I know that he is 3=5=3=2 or 3=5=2=3 and now 4♥ is probably better than 3N, altho that is not always true. If he makes some other call, then I am going to shut it down in 3N. If I have to make only one call, and it had to be 3N or 4♥, I'd bid 3N
BillHiggin
Silly me  I bid 3N (12-14 4333 no CoV) the first time.Let partner decide - he might actually have some information on which to base a decision.I know - odd concept that "trust partner" thing. And of course, he usually mucks it up, but if I keep showing faith, eventually he will do something wise (When your name is 'iggins, you must have faith in the Pygmalion principal - if you treat her like a lady she will be like one but treat her like a flower girl and she always will remain so). awm
Mikeh's example hand is a 2♠ raise in my style, so bidding 3NT is fairly safe. I am somewhat concerned about a hand like x KQxxx Kxx Axxx (on which I would bid 1NT) but the spade ten seems to help provide a stopper in this sort of example. If my spades were slightly worse I would bid checkback in case partner has a singleton. Honestly I'm not sure I would bid 1♠ at all on this hand, since the spades are quite weak and it's easy to imagine partner mis-evaluating after 1♥-1♠-2m or 1♥-1♠-2♠ and a forcing heart-agreeing call. Edmunte1
3NT, natural and scientific :)
P_Marlowe
Hi, 4H, but 3NT is certainly at least as good.I dont play highly sophisticated relay methods,so I dont have a idea, which information I wouldget, if I used those methods. With kind regardsMarlowe
dake50
Quacky flat opposite a bal min rebid 1N= 3NT. Play that 9 tricks may be all WE need for game; 4H needs 10!
Fluffy
A style issue is important here: what would partner have rebid with, say, KQx KQxxx Kxx xx? Sorry I forgot to mention, partner would never ever raise on 3 cards, ,I always fail to remember this is not worldwide standard lol Anyway make up your mind on your standard, then you can say what would you do if supported partnership's shapes are any 5332 and 5422 (can rebid minor as well)
Fluffy
On the actual hand whatever you played was success, I went scientific and was happy to see partner having just 2 spades then bid 3NT with confidence.
Winstonm
This cannot be answered unless style is known - is opener forced to hold 4 spades to raise? If partner has a forced rebid of 1N with a weak doubleton and less than 4 spades, 3N is poor. I would bid some form of checkback to find out more. jikl
In this example, won't you be giving the opps the information on how to beat 3NT even if it is right if you use a checkback? I think you need to make the definitive decision now. Sean

I think you need to make the definitive decision now. SeanMy experience has shown that if you consistently bid to the correct contract you will be very hard to beat - of course, bashing works now and then, but in the long run you will most likely break near even between making because you bashed and going set because you bashed. If 3NT is not a makeable contract, in the long run it is better not to bid it than hope a bash bid keeps the opps from finding the killing lead, which may be a normal lead anyway.
