jtfanclub
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sjxxxxhxdajckjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Playing 2/1 with 2♣ being your strong bid, what is your bid after 2 passes. If I had: [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sjxxxxhxdajckjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I would open 1 spade. As it happens, I'm going to have a problem after partner bids 2 of a red suit, so I'll just open it 2 spades. Apollo81
2S wtp? Peter I think you should save your "wtp" for "what do you do with KQJxxx xx xxx xx in 3rd seat" weak twos normally contain 6 cards or a strong 5-card suit, so 2♠ would be anti-field here
Apollo81
1♠. The preemptive advantages (relative to pass) outweigh any other concerns. 2♠ seems a bit weird to me with 5-5 when you could open
mr1303
1C for me, breaking my normal rule. This time I don't expect to make a game (unless partner can bid spades himself) so I content with bidding a suit I want led. If opponents bid a game here (possibly 3NT) partner will realise I don't have a strong hand, so must want a lead. Jxxxx is not good for leading purposes. kenrexford
This may seem counter-intuitive, but one of my motivations for opening 2♠ rather than 1♠ is that my suit sucks. Here's why. If you held Jxxxxx in spades, and four clubs, in third seat, would the lack of quality spades dissuade you from a weak two? Probably not. Partner will expect that your spades may be ugly for a third-seat weak two. In contrast, would you consider opening 1♠ with AKJx and little to nothing more, for a lead-director? Maybe AKJx-xxx-xxx-xxx? Add enough quacks to entice you if you must. In other words, one-level openings in third seat are often lead-directive, whereas two-level calls in third seat are often noise. So, when borderline between 1♠ or 2♠, I'll open 2♠ with lousy honors but 1♠ with good honors.
pbleighton
"weak twos normally contain 6 cards or a strong 5-card suit, so 2♠ would be anti-field here " My weak 2s in the 3rd NV are wild, and I have no problem playing against the field. Also, not vulnerable, a lot of players around where I play open weak 2s very aggressively in the 3rd seat not vulnerable. Peter P.S. your sarcasm detector is on the blink ;)
gwnn
1♠ - the fun bid, the effective bid, the sound bid. Classical example of "wtp"
whereagles
The "preemptive" 1♠ seems correct.
P_Marlowe
Hi, 1S, on the border, but the rule of 20is satisfied.Would I open in first / second seat? Most likely not. With kind regardsMarlowe

zasanya
Seems 1♣ followed by ♠ upto 3 level may not be a bad idea
