DWM
Last night I had the sequence 1H (P) P (1S)3H First question, should partner bid on with the following red v red xxxxxT98xxAxx In the PM we could not answer the following, would like suggestions what do the following sequences show. 1H (P) P (1S)3H 1H (P) P (1S)X (P) 2C/D (P)2/3H 1H (P) P (1S)2S (P) 3C/D (P)3H
HeartA
It's tough. On one hand, I have a good card, CA, on the other hand, I don't have ruff value. I am not sure if I would bid on over pd's 3H (first question), or over pd X and 2H rebid. But I would bid game over pd's 2S and then 3H. jtfanclub
I would not. If what I have is all that partner would need for game, he should have opened 2♣. Switch my majors, and I would raise to 4♥.
Apollo81
I would raise to game with an ace in that auction. Partner should be bidding 3♥ to make opposite a bust.
whereagles
> 1H (P) P (1S)> 3H>> xxx> xx> T98xx> Axx Yes, bid 4, or maybe 3♠ intending to pass pard's 3NT. You have just about the best possible passed hand. > 1H (P) P (1S)> 3H Shows a good hand with lots of hearts and no desire to penalize opps. > 1H (P) P (1S)> X (P) 2C/D (P)> 2/3H Shows a good hand with a little less hearts than above and a more defensive character. Wouldn't mind pard passing 1♠ dbled. > 1H (P) P (1S)> 2S (P) 3C/D (P)> 3H Shows one of those 6322 game-forcing hands which US players bid by leaping into the 3-card suit the 2nd round. E.g. AxxAQTxxxAAQJ
jtfanclub
AxxAQTxxxAAQJ OK, since I didn't expect to be in the minority...I am shocked that people don't open 2♣ with such a hand. I was thinking the 1♥ P P 1♠ 3♥ showed an 8 trick hand, like... AxxAKQxxxAxxx And the same hand with a pointy king would open 2♣. But perhaps I'm wrong. mr1303
Any case for playing this as pre-emptive? I.e. partner is unlikely to make any interesting noises having passed first up, so why not kill some opposition bidding space?
