Playing in a pairs tournament against not strong opposition, sitting South you hold:

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=s8h109dq10952cqj632]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv]

and bidding goes:

West East

----- 1

4NT(1) 5(2)

6 All pass

(1) RKCB in

(2) 2KC, no Q

What's your choice and why?

I lead the T. I must be paranoid, but I dislike the Q lead because it gives away the position. is out of the question. "not so strong" opps will jump to 4NT because of HCP, not distribution.

My hand and the bidding indicates that dummy will show up with good support, a side suit and controls in both minors. We need to cash two tricks form the start or set up a trick which can be cashed when partner gains the lead later.

Q is the best chance for accomplishing that.

Why a sidesuit?  :)

Because, to apply BW directly, he's normally got a (huge) source of tricks. My lenght and strenght in the minors tips me off.

Of course nothing is 100%. But I go with the odds - that pays in the long run.

I was expecting more votes and comments. Here is the full deal:[hv=n=sa109xxhxdkjxxca10x&w=sjxxxhkjxxxxdxxcx&e=sxh109dq109xxcqjxxx&s=skqxhaqxxdaxck98x]399|300|[/hv]

At the table my lead was Q, end game. After tournament me and my partner discussed the board. I had the feeling that it wasn't a good time for an offensive lead, having length and 3 level controls on 2 suits. It increases the chance that partner controls hearts, so a defensive lead seems much better. My partner added that weak players tend to bid 4NT on hcp, not on source of tricks.

I swear I played this hand last week, and this was the layout.

I led the 10, which didn't work out so hot. My expert partner took me aside and told me that when in doubt, I should make an aggressive lead against a small slam, and I think he's right.

Phil,

I don't buy it. To lead H10 is bad only when pd has HQ and no other high cards. While it is bad to lead CQ if pd don't have C10 or CK. Even in the case you constructed (in ), declarer can still get right by playing double dummy.
