Bidding vs a strong club

You hold JTxx x xxx T98xx, white vs red imps.

LHO opens a strong club, partner passes, RHO bids 1D(weak), you pass, 1H on your left (4+H, 1 round force). Partner comes alive with a takeout X, and RHO jams it with 4H.

Your partners options directly over 1C were just natural or X for majors/NT for minors. What's your call now?

I don't know about you, but for me, partners auction shows a good hand. I would enter the auction immediately with bad hands. I use overcalls 1 to show , 1 to show , as "raptor" showing spades and a minor, and 1NT as raptor showing and a minor... (of course partner passed here).

Since partner passed initially, and reentered, I am going to take him for good values. I am also going to take EAST's jump to game as serious heart fit and near maximum for the 1. I seriously doubt we can make 4 but partner has invited me to compete and I think I will unless I beleive the opponents don't have a clue what they are doing. At other vulnerabiliteis, I probably would pass but white versus red, how bad can 4 be? (partner will not have minors, so that means he will have spades and one or both minor.

I have been down 1100 before... :P

Thats great, this is why i mentioned his options over 1C were natural or X for majors or NT for minors. I don't really care what systems people play, all bidding problems are contextual.

Pass. I know usually it's losing bridge, but I'll bet on the very narrow "neither game makes" region. Of course, partner might not have the prime values he should have, and then our 4-4 spade fit is not going to stop us rolling up a telephone number. I agree with Apollo81, 5-4 would be different.

and as you see, i bid on your DESCRIPTION... i mearly shared what i usually play. The he must have spades and a minor is based on he has short hearts and DIDN:T use 1NT (your method) to show both minors. I suspect he has spades and diamonds but may have spades and clubs. One thing he doesn;'t have is clubs and diamonds... so i feel safer bidding 4. Playing my methods, partner is likely to have bid 1 over 1 with spades=diamonds or spades=clubs. Of course, we don't have that direct inference here, but we have the same one indirectly... see my quote....

At other vulnerabiliteis, I probably would pass but white versus red, how bad can 4♠ be? (partner will not have minors, so that means he will have spades and one or both minor.

Sadly, i don't have an easy way to show minor two suiter over 1 at a low level... like you did... but iused your inference...see?

It depends a lot on style of course. With a partner that I know doesn't mind 4-card overcalls in general, but with whom I haven't discussed style vs 1, I would expect that he would overcall 1 with KQ8x x AQxx xxxx, and that the delayed double shows a substantially bbetter hand than this. I would bid 4, but with no great conviction.
