pbleighton
You're playing 2/1 with moderately light openings. You open virtually every 12 count, and the majority of unbalanced 11 counts, but you routinely pass 11 counts which meet Rule of 20 but which don't look right. Teams, unfavorable, you hold Ax-A10xx-xxxx-xxx. The bidding goes:1S(partner)-P-1NT-2D-2S-P-P-3D-P(15-20 second hesitation)-P-? 1. Do you agree with the second round pass?2. What would you do now? Would it be different if you weren't vulnerable?3. If you would bid, given the hesitation by pd, is it clear enough that you wouldn't feel barred? inquiry
I would pass given the hesitation. Having said that, I would not be in this "boat" as I would have raised 2♠ to 3♠ unless my partner is someone who would have just rebid 2♠ because he had six of them and it was his turn to bid. Now, if you play the immeidate 3♠ shows a "limit raise" (I would jump to 4 with such a hand on this auction), I guess you would have to pass. On second thought, 3♠ was so clear last time that perhaps I would feel that 3♠ has to be ok this time. So upon reflection, I think it is a logical alternative to bid 3♠ now. Guest Jlall
1) Yes. I am one of those who would bid 2S with almost any hand and 6 spades.2) I would pass at any vul.3) N/A. But obviously I think pass is an LA given my answer to 2.

pbleighton
Ben: Does a rebid of 2S promise more than minimum playing strength for you? 2S for me just shows 6 cards. Peter
kenberg
There is a fair chance 3S is wrong, and if it's right it will be rolled back. Seems to be little point in bidding it.
pclayton
Ditto the others. 2S for me can show a minimum, but there are some hands that I wouldn't bid 2♠ on; but that would the type of hand I would be embarassed to open in the 1st place. Fluffy
1) pass2) pass, LOTT says defend not bid, yes? 8-0 fit normally makes more tricks than 4-4, 6-2 is in the middle of both, so don't count only the combined trumps. I think exactly the same as Justin.
