Masters Bridge club

I have played there...

BTW, it is my understanding that hands played both the master and relaxed bridge clubs are still compared with hands played in the other two rooms. That is, dont' expect the quality of the bridge your scores are compared with to change depending upon which room you play in.

The problem with playing in the master club room is one of finding opponents. Since there are no tables there, no one goest and looks for games t here. As soon as the number of players in the room picks up, the more people will go there. One would hope the master room would attract people willing to play fairly long sets...

I see no reason why an easily accessible yet partitioned off area like Masters bridge club will attract mostly/only people interested in long sets, or those whose skill level is a notch above others.

Just doesn't seem to happen.

What about HMFAG partitioning people off to different bridge clubs depending on their self rating? Of course, self rating is still self rating, but its 1 more filter method.

I have the feeling that people don't know what the Masters Bridge Club is supposed to be about. They have always played in the Main Bridge Club and find their opponents there, so they will continue to do so.

So a question I'd like to have answered on the forum is:

What kind of game would be found in the Masters Bridge Club that is not found in the Main Bridge Club, in short what is the "added value"?

I think the idea is that in the relaxed club, frequent undo's, table chatting about issues unrelated and related to bridge. A relaxed and don't take the game so seriously kind of attitude is planned.

I think the issue of the master's club is one where the game is played very seriously, strict bridge rules are followed. Discussion of other issues don't exist or are extremely limited. In other words, players in the master club maybe no more expert than others, but the (my) expectation is the attitude of the players is "serious" and the game is played strictly by the laws of bridge. Think rueful rabbit in relaxed club, secretary bird in master club, and hideous hog picking peoples pocket in the main room/masters room.

The seriousness of the master room in theory should lead to longer legnth average games. And you can expect to see a lot more conventions in the master club rule. Anyone trying relay systems in the relaxed room should be shot, but those things should be fairly common in the master club room.

Perhaps it should be called the 'serious bridge club'.

Personally, I think it should be called the 'free lessons bridge club', where you can get free lessons from your partner after every hand. Then people who do that in the Main Bridge club could be encouraged to to move to the new club. By force if necessary. ;-)

What I think we need the most is a rotating indy club...every hand with a new partner, stay as much or as little as you want, no penalty for ducking out early (GIB would finish the hand for you). Good for people waiting on tournaments, firemen & paramedics (I know several who would love to play except that they have to be able to quit on a moment's notice), and other people who can't afford any time commitment. Nice way to meet people.

The process that good players use for getting into playing table is to look at thier friend list and then right click and join, i think good players rarly scroll the tables finding a free spot, therefore making a master room wouldnt work so well.

I suggest changing the function of Masters bridge club to allowing only set games or pairs game. More than one friend of mine once asked me if they can play against opponents who are regular partners, rather than two pickup opponents.

I feel it's not so difficult technically, for example you start a new table and fill in your partner's id, while one player wants to join your table, he has to provide his partner's id at the same time, after being accepted by both opps and host, the table can start.

Such tables are best to be placed in a specific room apart from main bridge club, otherwise, it may take too long time to start a game.

I much prefer to play against established pairs instead of random opponents. One of my partners has gotten to the point where he refuses to play any longer vs. random opps.

When he has advertised for "established pairs only" in the past, invariably he would get one player without partner attempting to sit. He would let them sit, only to ask who their partner was, and upon being told they didnt have one (or that they could not find one), they were politely asked to leave the table. Unfortunately, not everyone chose to do so willingly.

I think this could be a good solution for those pairs looking to play established pairs. Or at least, its a good start.

I see the relaxed club getting decent numbers though, which is nice to see. I don't really play in the masters bridge club because usually when I'm looking for a decent game, I'll join a tourney, or more likely, set up a teams match. Teams matches are the best.

I suspect that that may be why the numbers aren't there that often, at least right now, but I do think it will pick up in time.
