We have lots of bids available below game if partner is strong enough, and if he is not, a 2-level contract is likely to play well even if we only have seven spades between us. Nothing to add to what Roland said other than that 2S is more likely to get us to game (there are lots of 9 and 10 point hands with 5-1 in the majors where partner bids over 2S and passes 2H). Mine does, although the convention doesn't necessarilly do that for all people. It would be nice on this hand for sure. What's your rebid? 2♠ is automatic for me. I would bid 2♥ if.... 1) I had lousy spades and no ruffing values (3-6-2-2), or 2) My hand was *so* weak that I want to slow partner down. When you hold a borderline hand, experience (mine, anyway) suggests that we usually do better when we show support for partner. Either major could be right, but this is not the same as Qxx KQxxxx A xxx and we should let partner in on the secret that we like ♠s. pclayton Posted February 28, 2007 Report Share Posted February 28, 2007 2♠, but I'm not as enamored with it as others. This hand won't necessarily play great in spades. Its unlikely our heart suit will get set up, and pard may be ruffing with my high trumps to score tricks. If pard fits hearts, we can use both suits, but only with hearts as trump.
