Rebid?

This is a clear 2 raise for me. I am not going to rebid king empty to six with such a nice support for partner. We have lots of bids available below game if partner is strong enough, and if he is not, a 2-level contract is likely to play well even if we only have seven spades between us.

Nothing to add to what Roland said other than that 2S is more likely to get us to game (there are lots of 9 and 10 point hands with 5-1 in the majors where partner bids over 2S and passes 2H).

This is why Kaplan inversion is such a nice convention, now I have to guess between 2 and 2. I will be supportive to partner today and rebid 2.

Does your version of Kaplan inversion destinguish between 4 spades and 5 spades?

In either case, wouldn't it be more appropriate to say that this is why F.... [convention that I won't spell out for fear that the decency filter will remove my post] is such a nice convention?

Mine does, although the convention doesn't necessarilly do that for all people. It would be nice on this hand for sure. I will bid 2 here and I consider it obvious, but certainly I would bid 2 if I knew for sure partner had four spades.

You hold:

[hv=d=e&v=e&s=skq4hk87532dac842]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

The auction starts:

pass - 1 - pass - 1

pass - ?

What's your rebid?

2 is automatic for me. I would bid 2 if....

1) I had lousy spades and no ruffing values (3-6-2-2), or

2) My hand was *so* weak that I want to slow partner down.

What Justin said.

When you hold a borderline hand, experience (mine, anyway) suggests that we usually do better when we show support for partner. Either major could be right, but this is not the same as Qxx KQxxxx A xxx and we should let partner in on the secret that we like s.

2S.

With a 3-6 I think you just have to treat each hand on a case by case basis. This hand looks to be about spades rather than hearts.

2, but I'm not as enamored with it as others. This hand won't necessarily play great in spades. Its unlikely our heart suit will get set up, and pard may be ruffing with my high trumps to score tricks.

If pard fits hearts, we can use both suits, but only with hearts as trump.

Still, it feels wrong to rebid this threadbare suit instead of raising pard with KQx.
