jim420
Topic says it all... This time I'm fully conscious as South, and therefore didn't have the luck to bid the grand slam :P How do you approach it? Interference is very heavy. Would you even suspect the possiblity of a slam existing? [hv=d=w&v=e&n=shkqj6dajt754cat2&s=sqj864hat9874d98c]133|200|Scoring: IMPW N E S1♠ 2♦ 2♠ 3♥ 3♠ 4♥ P P P 4♥S+3Opening lead: ♠K4.3 IMP to EW[/hv] EDIT: additional scoreboard note - this is an MBC hand. Nobody bid grand. A 6♥xx+1 bidder gets 14.9 IMP, 3 other tables get 6♥+1 and 2 gets 6♥, for 6.0 and 5.4 IMP. If you miss slam, you lose IMP. A sacrifice attempt of 4♠x-3 gives 1.8 IMP to NS. PS: I truly dunno how one table could possibly waste this as 6♥-1, must have pitched the ♣A on facing a ♠ lead (jk of coz)...but that gave us better IMP... :P
Finch
The grand is extraordinarily difficult to bid with any confidence.I would hope to get to a small slam. On your auction, North is far too good for a 4H bid. 6H is a better evaluation of the power of the hand, though 4S is the obvious call for the time being. mike777
edit. I would x by north and maybe reach small slam but maybe not.
Fluffy
opps raise might help south to think of ♥KQ and ♦AK or AQ, but that needs north to bid something else than 4♥. I would also be very happy if I can reach 6.
Guest Jlall
4H was a big underbid here, but as others have said 7 is tough.
kenrexford
Ditto. I'd add that I do not even like the grand slam here. After a spade or trump lead, I'm down to three hearts. I cash both minor Aces, ruff a diamond, back a heart, ruff a diamond, with a spade ruff in there somewhere. If diamonds splint 3-2, I take three more diamonds in dummy (beyond the Ace), resulting in three spade pitches, and the one spade ruff. That's not enough. So, I need two spade ruffs, meaning that hearts must also split 2-1. With two voids, I'm not all that keen on playing for diamonds and trumps to both cooperate. Codo
Actually from all bids in the partnership I just liked the final pass. With North I had prefered X to 2 Diamond but the difference is small. With south I surely had passed 2 Spade- or I have a tool to show weak long Hearts now. But I doubt, that this is a lebensohl stuation for a lot of partnerships. Back to north I had bid 4 Spade, 6 Heart 5 Spade or even 7 Heart but never ever 4 Heart. I think you should reach small slam quite often with these kind of hands but grand slam is too far away - and no good bet anyway.
