paulg
4♥, followed by 4NT over 4♠ to imply better diamonds than clubs. p
Fluffy
I play this as 3♥, but its not standard so I'll try 4NT directly, 4♦+5♣ also looks interesting
Apollo81
4♥, followed by 4NT over 4♠ to imply better diamonds than clubs. p You don't think partner will take this as RKC for spades? I think it is dangerous to bid this way undiscussed. If I have no agreements here, I'll just bid 4♦.

To be honest it never occurred to me that 4♥ could be anything other than the minors :) Perhaps I should reconsider? I do normally play 4♥ is a slam-interest hand in the minors whereas 4NT is still the minors but weaker. p
whereagles
If I'm playing 4♥ + pull spades to 4NT = slammish minors, I'll bid that. Otherwise I'll just bid 4NT for the minors and pass pard's preference.
bid_em_up
4♥, followed by 4NT over 4♠ to imply better diamonds than clubs.Under the given choices, 4♥ is slammish minors, as suggested. You had other options for spades + minor (3H or leaping michaels). Hands that bid 4H should be at least 6-5 in the minors. If partner, knowing this, bids 4♠, I pass it in a heartbeat. pclayton
Even if I bid 4♥, will pard know that ♦xxx / ♣Jxx and the ♠A is enough for a slam? I can see 5N, on the "one useful card" theorem or 4♥ I suppose.
dake50
Try DAPO(super MAF Chiel Vorheist's verses preempts). Here jump 3S= D+C+ 5+Controls. Partner now well placed.

You mean pard, the weak hand, should be making decisions after the gadget? That's a wrong strategy.
mikeh
Depends on methods. If we play that 4minor is a two-suiter with ♠s, then 4♥ is logically minors: and I would not worry about hearing 4♠: partner is not going to suggest ♠s as trump when he passed 2♥. If he does, we're in trouble, because he has long ♥s as well: note the silence of 3rd hand white v red when we have a ♥ void. If we don't play 4♥ as both minors, then I choose 4N, even tho that risks a 5-2♣ fit as opposed to a 6-2 (or 6-1) ♦ fit. This hand has too much slam potential to suggest a partscore in ♦s, but not enough to force to slam via 5♥ or 5N... btw, is there a difference between 4N and 4♥? 5N and 5♥? Is there a good case to be made that if 4♥ is minors, 4N is (gasp) natural? Why not? Frankly, it would not surprise me to learn that a quiet 3♦ worked best :) Partner holds Jxxxx Qxxxx x xx... But bridge is not a game in which pessimism is often rewarded. And my dreams he holds Axx xxxxx x AJxx.
