jtfanclub
♠ J ♥ QJ7643 ♦ Q64 ♣ K93 You are vul against not, RHO dealt and opens 1 spade. Do you make a call? If it matters, your partner is somebody you've played against before and you know her to be good, but this is your first time playing together, and you have no special agreements. pbleighton
Vulnerable, it's an easy pass. Not vul, it would be an easy 3H. Peter
Free
Easy pass: weak hand, poor suit, nothing worth mentioning when Vulnerable...

inquiry
PASS. Are you seriously thinking this is even a question?
jtfanclub
PASS. Are you seriously thinking this is even a question? Nope, just making sure that I wasn't off-base when I thought this pass was automatic.

whereagles
Pass, but, contrary to the rest, 2♥ isn't that bad a bid and is bound to work in practice more often that you'd like. And I think I know where this hand comes from :)
BebopKid
Vulnerable, it's an easy pass. Not vul, it would be an easy 3H. Peter ditto.
Double !
PASSnot even closemy Vul 2-level overcalls, especially at unfavorable, tend to be rather sound. Why promise values that I don't have? especially when my partner hasn't made his or her usual bid of "pass" yet? 2nd seat, I usually keep my bids sound (unless maybe in spades). What is going on with this hand? Did the opps bid a pre-emptive 3S and partner couldn't act, resulting in a missed 4H contract?Maybe it's becoming necessary to totally change the philosophy of defensive bidding to where jump-overcalls are intermediate, and immediate Xs and overcalls are transfers to a known suit, either weak or strong. Hmmmm. maybe not such a bad idea................Hey, who hit me? DHL
jtfanclub
What is going on with this hand? Did the opps bid a pre-emptive 3S and partner couldn't act, resulting in a missed 4H contract? Nope, nothing so exciting. See Walddk's thread if you'd like. His question was do you balance after 1♠-P-P, with unfavorable vulnerability, so I wanted to see how offensive a hand I could make and people would still pass with it. I'm wondering if, thanks to the person in the direct seat needing to be so much stronger when vulnerable, if one needs to balance with hands when vulnerable that would pass when not vulnerable. Gerben42
You can't be serious. It's on the LINE! No it isn't... Let's just say that bidding 2♥ will probably decrease your chances of asking her out for a drink afterwards.
