pclayton
[hv=d=s&v=e&e=stxh852dt986xc862&s=skxhaj97xdqxcakt9]266|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Playing in a friendly game in the MBC, You open 1♥, 1♠ on left and a negative dbl from pard, pass by RHO. You decide to rebid only 2♣. 2♠ on left, pass, pass. Right or wrong you double and it goes all float. 1. Pard leads the ♦A, x, x, x. 2. Pard tries the ♦K, ruffed by declarer. 3. Declarer exits the ♣Q and you win the K (pard playing the 7 - udca). 4. Right or wrong, you continue a low heart, won by declarer's King, pard playing the 2. 5. Declarer lays down the ♠A6. Declarer leads another club and pard plays the Jack and you let him hold the trick. 7. Pard plays the ♥8 to your Ace (indicating a doubleton heart) What now? goobers
Okay, I don't know what's going on here. If I understand correctly, the C7 in UDCA is showing an odd number of cards in the suit, right? So he must have 5 (?) for his negative double, making him 5-5 in the minors? That's impossible, since declarer showed 2 clubs. I don't know what partner is up to, so I'm just gonna lead a heart and try to give him a ruff. Presumably, he has a trump left and was 2=2=5=4. But then why didn't declarer just pull 2 rounds of trump? *boggles* I don't know. (His negative double shows both minors, right?)
kenrexford
Partner is either 2254 or 3253. If the former, I need to give him his heart ruff. If the latter, I need to give him his heart ruff, get a club back, and then give him a trump promotion maybe. As it only matter when he has but three clubs, I want a club back. So, small heart. I'm not sure why Declarer, with Axxxxx(x)-KQx-x-xx(x) is playing this way, but I'm not all that upset with his line as a defender.

mikeh
Cash the 3rd ♣... then play the ♥J to ensure the ♦ back, which you ruff and then lead any round card: playing partner for QJx 8x AKJxx Jxx or Qxx 8x AKJxx Jxx. You will probably survive playing a low ♥ to get the ruff then a ♣ back to you, then either a ♥ or a ♣... but what if partner's high trump is the J? Now when you lead a round suited card for partner to ruff, preparing to ruff the ♦ with the trump K, declarer can (and may) foil your plan by ruffing with the Q and exiting low, crashing your trumps. And he may well work this out, now that he has a complete count on shape. By cashing the ♣ early, you ensure that partner will score the J, since you will be on lead AFTER scoring your ruff. cherdano
It seems partner is 3253. Yes he might have bid 2♦ with that, but I will rather trust his carding than his bidding. If so, we should cash a club, give partner a heart ruff while asking for a ♦ return. We will ruff this high, and try to give him a trump promotion, so he still makes two trump tricks if he started with ♠Jxx.
pclayton
Right! Partner had Jxx, 8x, AKJxx, Jxx. You ensure +800 with the early club cash and then telling pard you want a DIAMOND back. It looks right to try - ♥ruff, ♣back, ♥promoting pard's card, but declarer can ruff the ♥ with the Q and clash your J and K.
han
This partner is an idiot, he doubled with Jxx xx AKJxx Jxx? That's a clear 2♦ bid! ;) Which heart did you play at the table Phil?

I'm pretty sure I played back a high heart.
