Version 3.5.4 available for testing

Recommended Posts

The next version of the BBO program, Version 3.5.4, is available.

This is basically Beta 353 with some bugfixes.

Please note:

a) This is not the official release; it is a pre-release version, and we're hoping you'll help us find all the remaining bugs. When we're ready, we'll automatically update each customers version of BBO as they login.

;) Do not download this version if you are not familiar with computers, are going to have problems backing out to the prior version, or are going to be annoyed if you find a bug.

c) The readme is at http://www.bridgebase.com/beta354/readme.txt

d) If you want to preserve the older version, rename c:bridge base onlinenetbridgevu.exe to something like oldver.exe and use this to login with 3.5.1

e) The upgrade is at www.bridgebase.com/beta354/bbo_update.exe

f) The full setup is at www.bridgebase.com/beta354/bbo_setup.exe

The problem with disappearing of the descriptions of the private clubs has been fixed I see. That text now paste itself into the field for WEB-site even I have put web-site URL into that field it next time has been aut. overwritten.

I have problems to see how to use the extra space for tournament description as it looks to me I cannot load extra info.

In another thread I have stated I am unable to handle the new semi-automated substitution-procedure for tournaments. Maybe here is the right place to ask for how to handle that. I need help for that as it is difficult to try and test the feature during action. I right now need to rely on the old procedure.

Read someplace that the Private Club Description panel was now stable.

So redid the B/I Lounge one.

Saved it on my PC this time - just as well ! it lasted two days - gone this morning !

I noticed that in some tournament-announcements the host, using Survivor, wrote something like "cut will start after round #" (round numbers differ between 2 and 9 as far as I have seen yet). I can't see how you can set this when arranging a tournament. Or is it automated and depending on the cut%. If it is, can anyone please tell me how it works using various numbers of boads and rounds?

Thanks, and a very good new year to you all !!

Hi!

Look here: http://forums.bridgebase.com/in...g10098#msg10098

I have been testing a new movement . Characteristics of this movement:

a) Clocked

B) Swiss , with playbacks allowed

c) Pairs only (for now)

d) Host can specify a percentage of players to be eliminated at the start of each round (starting with round 3). If specified, lowest scoring pairs are removed at the start of each round

e) Barometer ( pairs receive results at the end of each round, with IMPs/MPs)

f) A pair that contains a missing player when a round changes is eliminated, along with a low-scoring pair, if need be, to avoid half tables

g) If an odd number of pairs registers, the last pair to register is discarded on tourney startup to avoid half tables

I use one board per round with this movement. Generally, feedback has been positive.

Any Tourney host will be able to create this type of tourney once the 3.5.2 client shows up (week or two or three).

I hope to use this format in conjunction with the new client to come closer to a completely automated T.

Here it says starting with round 3. If ypu set the cut to 0% and modify the tourney at round 5 you can cut after round 5.

If ther are more tricks to it, i don't know them.

Have a nice day

non tournament directing related changes include :

1) Friends list. Click on your own name to bring up profile and you will notice a "friends/enemies" list there. You can edit it to your hearts content.

2) partnership bidding --oppos can now bid.

3) teaching table --try it, its different.

Off the top of my head these are the changes I remember...

I have found a bug in the demo. When watching a movie you need to push the next button twice before first card is played. I am pretty sure this wasn't the situation before.

Else I think it's great.

Can you please describe the circumstances?

For example, were you playing/kibitzing at a

table? If yes, what kind of table? Did you open

an existing log file with the Open button in the

movie window?

Thanks in advance for any details you can provide.

Ok, I will try to explain better. I was acting like my customers do when they find bugs into my programs, just screaming out loud with no backgroundinformation ;D.

So here what I did.

When playing or kibbitzing a board I click movie to check out all errors I did during the board.

Then when I want to recapture the play I press the button named Next so first card will be played in the diagram. But nothing happens, no card is played. Only thing that is happening is the Next button getting selected. But if I press the button once more, the first card will be played. My first thought was that this might be some focusproblem. But same problem occur if I select another result in the resultlist on the left (still in movie view) and want to look at the play. Then I need to press twice on the button Next before first card is played.

Breaking news

I just found out that this occurs on all boards viewed in movie except the first one. On first board first card is played directly when I press the Next button.

OS = Win XP

It doesn't matter if I am a player or a kibb. Same problem occurs.

I hope you guys understand despite my Swenglish.

Best Regards

Thanks Fredrik. I have found and fixed the problem. The fix

will not take effect for you until you download and install

the next version. Not clear yet when this will be released.

I love the ability to load multiple hands into one "movie" -- it makes preparing (and using) 'predealt' hands for teaching sessions much easier. It's also great to to easily be able to add notes/lesson text to the hands.

One thing that I have noticed though is that I can't set which player is the dealer on a given board. For example if I punch in a hand for Board 1 and have South make the first call of the auction, when I load the hand into a table North is still the first player to bid.

I don't know that this is something that needs to be fixed, but it was convenient (at least for my purposes) to have the dealer determined by who made the first call of the auction that I entered. It is relative easy to work around (by only entering boards into the 3/7/11 slots when I want South to deal, for example) but I thought I'd mention it.

Overall I think the improvements are fantastic.

Hehe Fred explained earlier, and after testing I finally discovered a method for this. (I also played with teaching table and know how to use it now).

The order of dealers is : North , East, South, West.

board 1 that you enter, north is dealer, board 2, east is dealer. etc. If you want south to be dealer in your deal, you have to click "add " until you see board 3, then south will be dealer in that hand. (Board 1 and 2 can be empty boards).

Hi all,

On the hand annotation, I found that I can annotate every trick except after the last card has been played. That annotation doesn't play back.

Also, when I play an annotated hand as a movie (not in the annotation facility), an annotation is displayed throughout all subsequent unannotated tricks, until it is replaced by the next annotation. There is a workaround by entering a blank annotation if no display is desired, I guess.

Thanks,

Dan

That is how it works :-)

The new training feature with opponents bidding is great. But I would like to know if you gonna improve it on some areas. My suggestions for even better practice is.

* Would be nice if the opponents have a cc automatically loaded. Sometimes they open 2 clubs for example. What is that? One time they open 3NT, I bid 4 spades with 20 points the opps responder bid 4NT, what is that?

* If we could see the opps hand afterwards it would be great.

Yesterday I had a problem which I never had before with BBO. 3 times it happened. This is the problem: without any reason (not any reason I know) I get booted from the game, it gives a message "connection lost", starts up again, connects and pulls me back in the room I was before. I even had a player who called the director to know if it was allowed for me to rejoin the tourney!! ;)

My system works on Windows XP, and I have cable (Telenet Belgium) connection to Internet which never disconnects...
