navit
I was 4th seat. The bidding went: Pass 1♠(partner) 2♥ ?(me) My hand was ♠ 86 ♥ ♦ KQ1098 ♣ KJ954[hv=s=shdc]133|100|[/hv] 9 HCP. What should I bid?
helene_t
It doesn't really matter since the board will be thrown out anyway - you have only 12 cards. Dbl is fine. (Oops sorry the below is nonsense, I rread the post wrong. Tx Ron for correcting me).The only bid that might make some sense (depending on vulnerability, kind of opps etc.)) is 4NT. Do not even think of double. Opps will outbid you anyway and a double does not disturb opps - on the contrary, it makes it easier for them to predict the splits. the hog
Did you read this right Helene? Pd opened 1S (2H) you? Double is the ONLY bid to make any sense. 4NT would agree partner's 1S opening.
whereagles
Dbl is probably the best, yes, though in light of a possible (likely) heart barrage from LHO, 2♠ is also ok. Pard might not bid 4♠ on ♠AJTxxx if we dbl (maybe he should, but he might not do it), but he surely will if we bid 2♠. Of course, he might also bid 4♠ on a mere ♠AJTxx and we won't be too happy about it :(

Double, I'd like to have a better hand at this level, but you can't always get what you want. Peter
