Partner bid 3 off the AK?

The opponents look to have a 10 card Spade fit

I have 8 hearts...

Bleah

I see two reasonable choices

1. Bid 4, planning to show Diamond support over 4

2. Bid an immediate 5

I'm going to start with 4. Its not as preemptive, however, knowledge about a double fit might help partner make the right decision over 5

I'm hoping for an auction like

3 - (4) - 4 - (4)

P - (P) - 5 - (P)

P - (5) - X

Sorry, you actually have 9 hearts.

My original post only contained 12 cards.

9 hearts?

We're now officially in the middle of freak territory. Virtually anything could be right or wrong, however, I'm bidding an immediate 5. I'm not about to table a 9 card suit as dummy. (Hell, I wasn't excited about tabling an eight card suit as dummy).

I ran a very quick sim to estimate partner's expected Heart length.

I assigned a 0=9=2=2 hand to North and assumed that South held either 6331. 7222, 7321, or 7330 shape. (I don't think that a six Diamonds to a QJ is a reasonable 3 opening holding a 6322 pattern)

0 Hearts = 9%

1 Heart = 73%

2 Hearts = 11%

3 Hearts = 7%

Hahaha, when I started reading I thought that Richard was dubbing between 4H and 5D with a 9-card heart suit, WHAT! I'm glad to see that that was not the case.

I think I'd also bid 5. Maybe the opponents will convince me to bid 7 later.
