Requests for more tables - how to handle?

When I run tournaments I think I am able to serve approx. 20 tables in a decent way. I therefore opens for 40 entries.

Normally the result of that is 14-16 tables. I think I dare not to accept the many requests I normally receives to open for more tables. I have no idea how many of those who have registered who will really be there. Today tourney opened with only 13 tables = 14 pairs missing. Pity especially because I today had turned many down - 1 asking for 8 persons to be opened for. If I had known that so many was not to turn up I had certainly accepted.

It would be very nice to be able to see 5 minutes before tournament start how many of the registered players who were online.

I tell people to register early then they will have no problem - but in fact that is no solution. Several of those missing today I noticed had registered some days ago. In fact it looks like it is those registering early who are causing my problems.

I also was encouraged by a pole just to expand the tourney - he and friends would be ready to help directing.

I turned all down - but I am not sure I was right doing so.

How to deal with that kind of problems?

I think the best way is to have a dir team, if you can unify criteria on subbing, adjusting, etc. (for example, I wait to people to actively ask for sub, and try to adjust as long as result is obvious, when I set policy, and ask what is the policy when I codirect).

A problem could be people calling different dirs on the same issue, though

Thank you Gerardo for your suggestions.

Doing so I fear my objectives will vanish rather quickly. I need approx. 2/3 of the players to be playing best Precision or at least non-natural systems. Expanding tourney's I think I will face the risk of too many standard classic players. - In that case those will not be able to take advantage from the experience intended.

It is a simple matter to see who is online prior to tourney start. Simply open the registration list and click each pair. Their boxes pop up if they are online and if they are not you see a message "Xyz is not online".

If you are running a small tourney this wont take but a minute to do. If you see many pairs not online you can quickly expand the number of entries in anticipation of many empty tables.

Thank you Rain - I have now expanded to 44 for next tourney. Hope you are right!

I need help for handling the semi-aut. substitution procedure. I cannot test in action where quick and correct handling is urgent. How to do? I right now need to rely on the old procedure.

I have noticed fewer persons on substitution list. Is it so that substitution list now is for each tourney only?

Hi!

Try this! Press the show substituts button. Then you should see a list starting with:

missing: nickname

....

....

sub: someone( Skill Flag ) place where sub is

Now click on the "missing" nick and

press shift on keyboard while clicking the sub so that both list entries are selected

then click on ok and that semi automatic substitution is working

Hope this helps

Wouldn't it be better if the software were to allow players to register as subs in advance of a tourney, so that if someone registered to play prior to the tourney isn't there they will automatically be entered instead.

For pairs tournaments, prior to the tourney starting, pairs could register as subs as a pair, i.e. to play together.
